Pete Townshend with a VCS3
First photo of assembled Behringer VCS 3 synthesizer prototype. This recreation of the historic EMS VCS 3 from 1969 will also feature a mechanical spring reverb and real wood cabinet like the original. Simply beautiful!
Pink Floyd Free Four · Pink Floyd Obscured by Clouds ℗ Pink Floyd Records Released on: 1972-06-02
The band had bought a scaled-down version of the VCS3 synthesiser and taken it to France for the Obscured by Clouds sessions. By their own admission they couldn’t work out how to get any actual notes out of it or use it properly as a keyboard. “‘No one had told us how to,” said Gilmour. As such, its presence can be heard on the album, if largely confined to a sequence of gothic-sounding drones. ~ Mark Blake, Comfortably Numb
Brian Eno's EMS VCS3 Synthi gifted to David Bowie
A Glam Supreme: Brian Eno live with Roxy Music, 1973
A VCS3 synthesizer, new, for the princely sum of $785. Wikipeddia says this model was produced in 1969, so at that time this was big money.
