Extroverted Thinking (Te): Veda analyzes quality through purely objective means. She tells Mildred and Kay in no uncertain terms that their behavior is coarse and common. She’s keenly interested in knowing all the facts of a situation, and often asks many questions in order to truly understand. She sees the potential of Mildred’s relationship with Wally and how she could marry for money. She comes up with a long-term plan to get money and executes it without any reluctance. Veda is at her happiest when she feels free to pursue her own goals: “ I do what I think best and I like it that way.” She’s very pragmatic and wants tangible things.
Introverted Intuition (Ni): She reads easily between the lines. She’s convinced of the future at all times (“Wait till you get interested in boys”). She makes quick conclusions from her observations. She “just knows” about things, like whether her father will marry Mrs Biederhof. She has no trouble believing that Monte can tell all about her from her hand. She’s very away of how her actions can affect others. She has a fixed idea of what she wants and nothing can deter her from that goal; she’ll do anything to get it, and thoroughly believes the ends justify the means.
Extroverted Sensing (Se): She loves tactile things and physical items. “It seems to me if you’re buying anything it should be the best, and this is definitely not the best.” She craves activity, and embraces adventure - dancing, the races. She enjoys music and performance, being a talented singer, dancer and pianist with a good sense of her environment. She’s occasionally impulsive, like when she lets the cat out of the bag about her own guilt.
Introverted Feeling (Fi); She’s very reluctant to get close emotionally, telling even her own mother, “Let’s not be sticky about it.” We rarely see her emotionally vulnerable, aside from the death of her sister, and when that does happen, she doesn’t speak about it, simply crying. She despises Mildred’s coarse profession on principle. She is self-aware enough to know she’ll just go back to the way she was if she returns to Mildred.
