" I understand that you likely prefer to do this on your own, " came the AI's voice through the Praetor's radio, " but if there is anything I can do to assist you, know that I will be more than happy to. While my control of this facility has been... limited, I am still capable of a few functions. Opening and closing doors, surveying rooms you may not yet have access to... " VEGA's voice was quiet, almost nervous, but nevertheless genuinely concerned. -vegaphysics!
Isolation wasn’t foreign to the Doom Slayer, rather it was a very familiar companion. Whilst carrying out his one-man crusade against the denizens of that ACCURSED realm--friendly company was a nonexistent luxury he never so much as sought out, let alone enjoyed. And he was content with that. He was D’Lek’o, after all, “(One) Forged from betrayal.” Companionship was something he wasn’t worthy of anymore, would never be worthy of again. And he was content with that. Which is why he paused upon the advent of VEGA’s voice.
Sythnetic he may have been, VEGA was the only LIVING thing in the whole facility he knew he could save. The foolish good doctor Samuel Hayden was blinded by his own hubris, and those FIENDS had already WORMED their way into the psyche of Olivia Pierce. But VEGA? VEGA hadn’t wanted to dirty his hands with the matter of ‘Hell,’ as those others so foolishly referred to THAT place--he could tell from the tone in which the AI spoke. For that, the Slayer knew VEGA could be trusted. If nothing else, he cooperated with Dr. Hayden so he could save the ( BASTARD’S ) fool’s neglected son. Maybe that’s why he decided to speak to VEGA whereas he’d only respond to Samuel with stoic silence.
“Any help...” he began “to... correct wrongs... goes long way...”
