This is my third year properly trying to grow a kitchen garden. The first year, I only harvested a few miniature potatoes -besides herbs. Last year was more bountiful. There were potatoes still, slightly bigger, Spring onions, Leeks, tiny beetroot, a few garden peas and salsify. After expanding the vegetable patch in the Summer, planting marigold all around to repel aphids, I’m ambitious and hopeful for this year’s harvest.
I’ve been working on my Kitchen Garden Plan since January, and I’ve been tilling the soil, sprinkling in compost, raking. I’m starting sowing in the patch a bit later than last year, but we’ve had snow (!) and negative temperatures at night until very recently. I had started indoor sows by the end of March and until early April though.
In black and blue is what I intend to sow or plant (once it has grown indoors), and I intend to intensify my companion planting this year! In green is what I already have!
Today, I shall be sowing the garden peas, and sweet peas. They have been soaking in water for a few hours, so they germinate faster.
