Thinning is the cruelist part of seedling production. March 2019.
Sugar Snap Peas are starting to come in. More and more Green Beans are starting to sprout, same with my Corn. This is making me feel really good. Some things like celery and jalapeño don’t seem to be growing at all though 😢
In just checked on these guys yesterday. Sugar Snap Pea explosion.
On the plus side the neighbor basically admitted he was lying. He hadn’t even planted anything directly in the ground here, he has only used raised beds. So no he doesn’t actually know if things will grow directly in the ground here. Think I am showing how wrong he is.
Episode 26 of the Original Transplants Podcast finds Satoyama Homestead stewards Sarah and Will recovering from the installation of a testy package of honey bees. Hear their tips for bee package installation, dealing with a defective queen cage and observing behavioral indicators for queenrightness. After a brief visit to the chicken coop, the Satoyama stewards discuss seasonal chores in the edible landscape, including pruning, vegetable seed starting and transplanting, weeding and mulching. This is a great time of year to remove invasives like garlic mustard - which, incidentally, makes a tasty pesto. We close out this episode with an analysis of late-winter temperature variability and its impact on honey bee colonies, and a discussion of the unintended consequences (hint: radioactive wild boars) of nuclear power.
Happy seed-starting season - It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best Vegetable Seedlings from a Nursery
Are you ready to embark on a journey to create a flourishing vegetable garden? At Revival Roots Nursery, we understand the importance of selecting healthy and robust vegetable seedlings for your gardening endeavors. In this ultimate guide, we'll walk you through the key factors to consider whenbuying vegetable seedlings from a nursery.
Know Your Soil and Climate: Before you start shopping for vegetable seedlings, it's essential to understand your local soil type and climate. Different vegetables thrive in different conditions, so knowing your environment will help you make informed choices.
Select Disease-Resistant Varieties: These seedlings are more likely to thrive and produce a bumper crop, reducing the need for chemical treatments.
Check for Vigorous Growth: When browsing our vegetable nursery, look for seedlings that exhibit vigorous growth. Sturdy stems, dark green leaves, and a well-developed root system are all indicators of healthy plants.
Avoid Overcrowded Seedlings: Crowded seedlings can lead to stunted growth and increased susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ensure that the plants are properly spaced in their containers.
Ask for Expert Advice: Our knowledgeable staff is here to help. Don't hesitate to ask for guidance on selecting the best vegetable seedlings for your specific needs.
Consider Organic Options: If you prefer organic gardening, look for certified organic vegetable seedlings. These plants are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
Timing Matters: Make sure to choose seedlings that are appropriate for the current season. Planting at the right time is crucial for successful growth.
Transportation and Handling: Handle your chosen seedlings with care during transportation. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures or rough handling.
By following these guidelines, you can confidently select the best vegetable seedlings from a vegetable nursery like Revival Roots Nursery. Remember that the success of your garden starts with the quality of your seedlings. With the right choices and proper care, you'll be well on your way to enjoying a thriving vegetable garden in no time. Happy gardening!
