Ah~ finished!! Tried sketching this on Photoshop using a Veikk S640 pen tablet (actually, that’s my mom’s; she forced me to learn how to use it so that I can teach it to her for her online classes smh)

So before I tackle the monstrosity that is the front profile of Cynthia, I’m working on a side profile of her instead. (Perhaps doing leaps and bounds with a tablet isn’t the best idea but that’s honestly how I roll.)
So since GIMP 2.10.22 won’t pick up my tablet, which is a VEIKK S640, I’ll have to play around and get used to Krita, as well as download whatever bundles that are out there.
I was recently given the opportunity to receive a tablet for review from the brand VEIKK!
Before we begin, I have a few important things to disclose:
1-- I was given this tablet for free in exchange for reviewing it! I was encouraged to give my honest opinion though!
2-- I have been using a display tablet for the past 7+ years, so the quality of my test drawing on this tablet is not as high as my usual drawings. This is in no part the tablet’s fault, I’m just too used to display tablets and my hand-eye coordination for a tablet without a screen is not as good anymore.
All right, let’s get into it!
The VEIKK S640 Pen Tablet currently sells for $36.99 USD on Amazon as of this review (December 13, 2020). Its main market is toward digital artists, teachers, and OSU!! players. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android.
Its main draws are the relatively inexpensive price tag, pen that is advertised as battery-free and not needing to be charged, and portability.
The box contains quite a few items:

D--Extra pen nibs + Nib remover
E--VEIKK S640 tablet with USB cable
F--Sturdy felt pen storage case with pen inside
G--Quick start guide
Hardware
Tablet--The tablet itself is extremely lightweight! It measures about ~8 1/2″ in length, ~5″ on its shorter side. It’s only about ~1/4 cm thick on its thinnest portion and the thickest part where the logo is, is only 1cm thick. This thing is the very definition of sleek and portable! It can easily fit into a backpack or laptop bag for travel.
The usable surface area measures 6″ x 4″. Said surface has a light matte feel to it, giving it a similar scratchy sensation of pencil on paper when in use. The attached USB cable is a very generous length, about ~4 1/2′ foot long!
Pen--The pen is also very light, with a smooth non-slip texture. It has two programmable buttons near the tip end. At about ~6″ in length and a diameter of about ~1cm, it fits comfortably into my hand. It does not require a battery or to be charged, as it communicates electromagnetically with the tablet itself! It’s a very handy feature, with a pen like this there would be no interruption during use. I wish every tablet pen had this feature!
The pen has 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity which is standard, and the pen is recognized at 10mm and closer to the tablet surface. Here’s a little sketch I made using the tablet:
Nib Remover & Extra Nibs--The nib remover is made of metal and is pretty sturdy and easy to use. There are a total of 8 extra nibs, not including the one that comes already loaded into the pen!
Software
The driver for the tablet is downloaded easily from the VEIKK website. They also include digital downloads of their instruction guides, in case you misplace the paper one. I’m using this tablet on my Windows 10 PC.
The steps to install for Windows are super simple:
1--Uninstall any existing tablet driver
2--Plug in tablet
3--Install & Restart
The VEIKK pen tablet app is really easy to understand and use.
Under the Pen tab, it has options to program the shortcut buttons on the pen, as well as adjust pen pressure and click sensitivity levels.
Under its Mapping tab, there are options to use the tablet in right- or left-handed mode, which is amazing! As a left handed artist, it’s not often that drawing tools are catered to me, so this was a pleasant surprise to see. There’s also options to use the tablet in pen or mouse mode, as well as limit the mapping tablet to certain screen(s) or limit the tablet’s working surface area.
There’s also a Function tab which has no use with the S640, I assume this is for other VEIKK tablets that come with programmable buttons on their surfaces.

Pros
--inexpensive
--easy to set up
--portable
--pen requires no battery or charge time
--high quality product
Cons
--small size/working area (this is a pro for portability though!)
--pen buttons are easy to press on accident (you can program them to not do anything if needed, however)
All in all, the cons for this are so minuscule and insignificant, I could barely think of any. If the size is too small for you, VEIKK makes larger sized tablets as well!

This is a very affordable tablet, and excellent for new artists starting out with digital art. I wish my very first tablet had been this one! I would highly recommend it, and if the quality of this product is any indicator, I’d believe that other products by VEIKK would also be high-quality as well.
