A soft knock made Coco look up from her book. She was smiling before Velvet even poked her head in. She would recognize that knock anywhere.
“Hey.” Coco said and snapped her book shut.
“How are you doing?” Velvet asked and took a seat at her bedside.
“Oh please.” Coco replied and flicked her hair. “As if that little battle would knock me out for long.” Besides, Yatsuhashi was in far worse condition, she didn’t say. Her gaze still fell on their fellow teammate in the bed beside her, sleeping off his concussion.
Velvet had her lips pressed in a thin, worried smile. She was beating herself up over their loss, Coco could tell.
She leaned forward and grabbed Velvet’s hand.
“We’ll be fine. Next time, we’ll kick their ass.” Coco told her with the best smile she could muster while not wearing her full make-up routine.
“I am just-” Velvet sighed and looked down at their joined hands. Her thumb was stroking softly over Coco’s knuckles.
“I know.” Coco shushed her, cupping her face with her other hand, her thumb over Velvet’s lips.
