Kay Burley to get second job selling the Big Issue on street corner

Sky News presenter Kay Burley will be selling the Big Issue on a London street corner this week. And she’s not the only famous face taking up a second job: If you missed radio and TV presenter Colin Murray outside Covent Garden tube this morning, you can be on the look out for Keith Mulllin from The Farm and Wombats drummer Dan Higgis who will both be at Liverpool Central Station on Wednesday. They’re just four of the dozens who are taking part in #VendorWeek Big Sell, an event designed to draw attention to street paper sellers.

What I learned selling the Big Issue for #VendorWeek is that you don’t have to buy it, but be nice to the vendors.

The fundraising drive organised by the International Network of Street Papers (INSP) asks guest sellers to give up an hour of their day to try a hand at selling their local street paper and challenge perceptions of homelessness and poverty. Similar schemes are taking place around the world in Australia, the United States, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Greece.
