Unexpected Reunion
(( RP log between Ruthar and Venrome ))
The icy wind cuts into the ranger's face as his boots crunch upon the top layer of snow. His eyes dart across the paths before him, searching for signs of import. Wild frost boar tracks combine with claw markings of rylak as he climbs the last ascent before the return to the garrison. A commotion could be heard just over the other side of the cliff. The Quel'dorei tearing down a frosted over tent. Pots clanging on the cold ground, it's as if he was packing up to move on quickly after realizing how close he had got to enemies. Ruthar's ears perk up at the clanging, something clearly amiss. Quickly pulling Ana'dal into his grasp, he crouches low, boots moving silently along the path. "Rehm," he barely whispers to his camouflaged beast, "Check it out - I'll cover behind." Venrome breathed heavy as he began to fold the tent in on itself. "Little Elf wear plate armor..." He grumbled. "Blasted Ogre forgot to mention how heavy it is." Once his belongings were packed the Quel'dorei lifted the large Backpack over his shoulder. Rehm growls as Ruthar catches sight of the plated elf, his ears perking up at the words but not making them out clearly. "Hold," he says, his bow in hand. "You camp near restricted grounds - name and business," he says firmly, the wind still biting at his face as he blinks it away. Venrome froze in place. The voice was far too familiar, and not one that was pleasent last he heard. Being mindful of his hand movements he slowly rose them above his head. Backpack slinged over his shoulder. He spoke in Thalassian, using a poor 'Human' accent to hide his voice as best as possible. "Just a traveler. A hero who was about to move on after noticing the Sin'dorei banners. Lost... in a snowstorm..." Ruthar growls, his grip on his bow tightening. "My -trust- in the humans has been crushed after years of torture at their hands. Between that damnable Garithos and now that -witch- Proudmoore, there is nothing that needs saying." He takes a single step toward the figure, his boot blanting in the snow. "Come quietly or come not at all," he says as he pulls the bow string tight. "Your choice." "You don't understand. We're in a war. But not one between our people. I've come to Draenor to help... not just the Alliance but Azeroth. Let me go. I haven't done anything wrong." "To help who, your own as you spy on our forces here, plotting ways to exploit our weaknesses?" Rehm growls, preparing to pounce, but Ruthar shakes his head once. He takes a few more steps, bow still drawn as he get a closer look at the man, eyeing every detail with a gaze of intense scrutiny. "Fine." He turned his back to Ruthar. "Take me in. You'll see I'm no spy. I wouldn't have been found so easy, right? But if you won't listen to reason. Come..." *He lowers his backpack to the ground, his hands moving to behind his back. "I surrender..." He listened intently to see if Ruthar would take the bait. Ruthar smirked beneath his helm, his bow still drawn. With the slightest single nod, Rehm bounded forward to attempt to pin the 'human' to the ground, Ruthar not taking chances out here in the dangers of the tundra. Venrome's ears twitch as the large beast came for him, with a surprising agilty, took a hold of the backpack and swung it hard for the beast in hopes the heavy items would knock the beast back. Ruthar growled as Rehm retracted his steps quickly, the backpack sailing just shy of his muzzle as the beast bared his fangs and held his ground. "You take me for a fool, human?" he spat vehemently. "I will enjoy watching the pain of your incarceration in Silvermoon." "You should have just let me go..." His face now in plain sight. "I had a new start..." He reached for the spear rope attached to his belt that has seen Farstrider blood before. "I won't let you ruin it, Ruthar!" He launched the spear for the Ranger, but instead of a lethal target it was only aimed for the bow itself in an attempt to disarm him. Ruthar gasped at the sudden realization, his mouth falling agape as he hissed the name. "Kel'morthen." The spear caught him unawares in his state of shock, Ana'dal clattering to the ground, but not before Ruthar got a tight hand around the shaft of the weapon. "I told you I would kill you myself, Venrome," he spat, his eyes glaring at the elf. "And that will be the -end- of it." He threw the spear to the side, reaching for the dagger he kept hidden beneath his tabard as Rehm lunged forward, his jaws reaching to clamp upon Venrome's leg. The heavy plate armor took the full force of Rehm's teeth clamping down.* "So you send a feline to do your work." He fell to one knee in an attempt to take a hold of the beast's head in his grip. If successful, he shout out. "Call him off or I will end it's life! You want to kill me?! Then fine! Do it yourself, coward!" Ruthar was already charging for Venrome as his attention was pushed toward the beast. Lowering his shoulder, he aimed to make forceful contact with Ven's chest, sending him backward and off of his companion. Venrome is pushed back, tumbling down the cliff into the snow with a loud grunt. Pulling himself up as fast as he could. "I was finally free of your Horde! My family free and living happy in Stormwind! Don't come after me! Your -commander- allowed me to go almost a month ago... do the same..." He began to run off into the snow as a storm looked to be picking up. Ruthar scrambled to the edge of the rockface, looking down upon the yelling Venrome but clenching his teeth as the snow picked up. He moved to charge, but stopped himself as he thought better of it. "We will find you, -traitor-!" he screams into the storm. "You will -pay-, Venrome - you will -pay- even if it costs me my final breath!"
Preparing
The Kel'Morthen apartment was mostly silent for the night as Marieana shuffled through papers and books on the the table, her fingers stained with ink and her cheeks slightly smudged. She murmured and grumbled to herself as she worked through the numbers. "Just about done...Everything in a neutral account now, but just enough left in the city accounts not to rouse suspicion. Hopefully that human is holding up his end. If not, Goldtooth might be losing a few more teeth."
Marie stepped away for a moment, sighing softly as she made her way to the window. It had been days since Venrome sent her home, and no word so far. The paladin was growing anxious, though she knew more than anyone no one could keep that man from returning home. As Marie got lost in her own thoughts Venrome burst through the doors of the apartment, hood still on as he didn't bother to greet his wife. Moving to the bowl of water that was set to wash he tossed back his hood and dunked his face into the bowl. Streaks of bloody water ran down his face. Placing his hands on the counter he streaked blood across it as he panted and clutched the edge of the counter to steady himself.
Marie started a bit as the door bursts open, drawing her blade quickly until she saw Venrome's form. "Ven..."She called out, her voice failing as she saw the blood. Quickly she moved to his side, inspecting him for wounds. "What happened? Did that human betray you? Were you found?" Venrome tried to recollect his thoughts, rubbing a hand down his face. "Close the door. Shut the windows. Where are the kids?" He turned around to lean against the counter. He seemed to be unharmed, the blood wasn't his own. He looked at Marieana. "Farstriders." He simply stated, his voice hollow as he ran a hand down his face once more.
Marie cursed under her breath, moving around the room to do as he said.Quickly locking the door and shutting the windows tightly as she spoke. "Amori wanted more books, and Sethion wanted to get his armor augmented so I allowed them to go to the bazaar together. They should be back soon. How did they find you? I thought you two would meet between their scouting trips." She moved back to his side, still worriedly scanning his form.
"The human was late. He arrived shortly before I thought they would make their way by us. They must have just seen us enter the building. Five of them. Four cornered us in the house while a Ranger assaulted us from one of the trees." He growled in frustration, slamming a fist into the counter. "They're all dead... but they're going to be found. Too large of a group to go unnoticed. If anything they'll lock-down Eversong. It shouldn't have gone down in such a way. I -killed- our own people.... Damn it!" Ven slammed his fist down once more before sighing heavily.
Marie reached up to gently cup his face in her hands, turning his head up slightly so he would look her in the eyes. "Oh Ven...You did what you had to do. You know what they would have done if they returned to the city. The children and I...We wouldn't have been able to blink before the guards got us. You did what you -had- to do, don't think of it as anything more than a necessary evil." She paused for a moment, letting out a soft sigh. "We just...We might have to delay our plans for a while...Until things die down. Or perhaps speed things up before they can shut down the woods."
Venrome looked into Marieana's eyes, they were always a comfort for him. "One was just a child. Fresh out and ready to combat our enemies. I broke his neck... even after he surrendered." He closed his eyes, trying to forget the image of the lad, and rested his forehead against hers. "I'm trying to build a new life for us but I've had to sacrifice so many lives already. Tell me... do you believe in what we're doing?"
Marie sighs softly, gently caressing his cheeks. "Shh...Shh...Its okay my love...He knew where his path in life would take him. He knew dying was a very real possibility in his work. You had to do it, for us. For our safety." Leaning forward she placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "I believe in you, I will walk down any path you take me on without hesitation." Venrome nods slowly, placing one hand over her's.
"Then we need to get ready. As quickly as possible. I'm sure the Farstriders already know of the bodies. They're smart... they'll figure it out it was a Sin'dorei. When the children get back we need to explain to them everything. You tie up any loose ends you may have with work here, and I'll do the same. We leave in three days. We're meeting the Human, Zack, at Hearthglen. He'll be escorting us to Stormwind. Sneezil already arranged a room for us in Dalaran months ago. False history was created..."
Marie nods along with his orders, glancing back at the paperwork on the table. "I already started...Since you sent me away from the plaguelands. Our accounts are nearly in order, I've been slowly draining them so not to be suspecious. I've explained a bit to the children, they are ready to move at a moments notice."
He smiles reassuringly, gently squeezing her hands. "Love... we're going to get through this. We'll be in Stormwind before we know it. We'll be safe. As a family." He leans in to place a kiss on Marieana's lips. She returned his smile and his kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning into him.
He smiles against her lips. "Perfect then. Don't worry about the Human... he's kind hearted. Too much I believe. He's weak because of it. The boy is going to get himself killed for his compassion. But he's exactly what we need... a foolish compassionate Human." Placing his hands on Marieana's hips, he lifted her up onto the counter. "And because of him, we'll be free of the Horde and it's useless inner fighting among each other. I'll miss Silvermoon, I can say that. I just won't miss the worms that inhabit it."
Marie couldn't help but giggle as she was placed on the counter. "Good, you seem to always find the perfect pawns to help us. We will keep his compassion from killing him, as long as he proves he can be useful." She leaned her forehead against his, gently running her hands through his hair. "I've left the Horde once before...I've never really felt at home here since then. I will miss some of the friends we made...But, its a price I'm willing to pay for a better future for Amori and Seth."
He couldn't help but smile at her, shaking his head with a soft laugh. "Sometimes I wonder if you've always been this way or during our marriage a little bit of me rubbed off onto you." He nods slightly. "Its good you feel that way. Because home isn't here. It's not in the Horde... it's with our family. And our family goes to where it is most safe. Right now that's not the Horde." He kisses her once more, slowly moving a hand down her leg. "...The kids won't be back for a few more hours... " That empty look that was in his eyes before replaced by an intense fire.
The woman couldn't help but smirk a bit. "I say its a bit of both, would you have me any other way?" She teased, snickering a bit before returning his kiss. "My my...Mister Kel'morthen. I swear killing just gets you in a mood doesn't it?" Venrome smirks as her legs wrapped around his waist. "It's only a coincidence. Promise." He looked into his wife's eyes, seeing the same fire building. "Only you can get me from one point to the next..." And for the time being the couple forgot the impending battles, the deceit, and lost themselves within each other.
Of Family and Love
I'm just going on another patrol to see if he's arrived yet, don't fret so much. You of all people should know I can handle myself.
Those words echoed through the paladin's mind as she watched the sun rise from the chapel. He was right, she shouldn't worry. This was a man who fought numerous battles in which he was out numbered and came out on top. A man who's very name still strikes fear into the hearts of those who made themselves his enemy. But, she couldn't shake the fear. Because, he was not just that same ruthless man anymore.
He was the same man who stayed up countless nights with her, trying to soothe two very fussy babies and still finding a way to laugh about it in the morning. She could remember the innocent and loving glee that came over him when he heard the news of her being pregnant, and the very protective nature he adopted shortly afterwards. Through it all, he was her husband and just him leaving her sight now days worried her to no end.
It was not too long ago that the paladin had almost lost him for good, after a cryptic warning from him had her taking the children into hiding she returned not to find the brave confident man she left behind...No, simply a ruined manor. And when she tried to track him down what she found...The image would forever scar Marie's memories. The father of her child, the man she loved reduced nearly to a wretched. It took months of healing and training to get him back to what he is today, a long painful process that still haunted the woman. And though he was now stronger than ever before, the fear of seeing him in such a state again hung over her like a dark cloud.
"Crusader Kel'Morthen, your shift is up." The commander called, bowing her head she moved from the chapel doors and allowed her replacement to take her place. And soon she found herself on the back of her proto-drake, returning to that same ridge. Eyeing the male in the dark brown cloak. "If I ever kept you waiting like this...I would never hear the end of it." She teased, moving to his side and pulling part of his cloak over her as she watched the lodge with him. The worries and fears would have to wait, as long as she was breathing...She would always find him and he would never fall into such a state again.

Returning home
The paladin couldn't help but sigh as she reached the shining gates of Silvermoon, the place in all its glittering radiance never felt like a home to her. And if all went right with Ven's plans, soon enough she wouldn't have to call it that anymore. After spending some time in Hearthglen and visiting with Amoriana, it was hard to come back. Only one thing could make her return, even if he didn't always realize it.
Her horse slowly made its way through the cobblestone streets, her hood covering most of her face just in case old enemies still decided to hold a grudge against her. Marieana knew she couldn't expect everyone to show the same forgiveness Ven had, she knew sometime the sins of her past would catch up, no matter how much she prayed or how many good deeds she did.
As she reached their cozy apartment, the woman tried to tip toe in as quietly as plate would allow her...Only to see her husband passed out at the table with a bottle of Rum beside him. Marie shook her head, snickering a bit to herself as she moved to their room removing her plate and placing a robe on before going back to his side, running a gentle hand through his hair. Strange, how peaceful he looked in his sleep so much different than the stern faced magister she had been used to. It was hard for her to wrap her mind around the concept sometimes, this was the same man she once came to blows with when they were still young, the same man who risked much to marry a low-born person such as her, and he was the same man who gave her two beautiful children, while also juggling a very busy career in the magistry.
Marie glanced outside for a moment, murmuring a soft prayer into the dying light of the day. A prayer of hope, forgiveness, and thanks. She hoped the Light would bless the path they were on, forgive her for what she might do to keep her family safe, and thanked it for simply allowing her to have her family again. A dream she never thought possible.
Under her hand the man stirred slightly, murmuring in his rum induced sleep, causing the woman to grin down at him once more. "Come along love...Time for bed." She whispered softly, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as she half carried, half dragged him to their room. Won't it be a surprise tomorrow, for him to wake up to her there. She just hoped she could get up early enough to see the look on his face.
