A The Amazing Digital Circus escape AU, centered around a chatfic!
༘⋆
The cast escapes the Circus and find themselves in the long-abandoned office building of C&A, a now defunct game development company, in May 2025. The most glaring problem? None of them entered the circus in May 2025—in fact, some have been missing long enough to be declared dead.
Picking up the pieces left is a task much easier said than done.

Comments on Parallax got me thinking about how the loops go after... There is no real "canon" for post-fic, it's very much up to the reader and I want to keep it that way. Buut it's fun to think about.. so I will!
While writing the fic I kind of avoided taking the loops into account. Partially because I didn't want it to spiral out of control into another longfic, and partially because I just wanted to keep things simple anyway. Buut since I'm done writing it, that's not a problem! Yay!
In the end note on Ao3 I mentioned that I purposefully didn't tie everything into a neat little bow. I do that a lot in my writing because all I write is fanfiction and a lot of the fun of fancontent is those loose threads, but here it's also sort of because I did want the loops to still have a reason to happen. Among other things.
My reasoning for that is A, that it's just fun, and B, the time loop is kind of instrumental to the party actually succeeding in their quest. It's not necessarily required—there are plenty of no loops AUs, and they usually go the route of Siffrin's altered wish guiding him to solutions instead of having to find them via trial-and-error. This fic does lend itself really well to that, and it would be a fun direction to take it, but I like making things complicated and emotionally harrowing. And what it is pretty necessary for is for revealing how severe and thorough Siffrin's problems are.
And realistically, (not that there's much room for realism when it comes to Wish Craft, but still,) given what we know about why Siffrin's canon wish shook out the way it did—that being that, along with all of Vaugarde's undirected intent, Siffrin really really wanted what they were wishing for, and the Universe seems to take a sort of roundabout but thorough "the ends justify the means" approach to granting wishes—I don't really think it would go as smoothly or easily as boosted luck. God what a hell of a run-on sentence. I also think if Siffrin didn't make their canon wish, they'd end up with something kind of aimless? Because other than staying with the party, they don't really want much of anything at all. They themself are very aimless, just in general. and I doubt that would result in anything so straightforward.
This isn't a dig at those aus, of course, I just really like coming up with interesting foundations for stuff like this. And like I said. I like making things complicated and emotionally harrowing.
Another reason I didn't tie everything up nice is that Siffrin wouldn't let that happen. In this scenario he hasn't had that COMMUNICATION IS IMPORTANT message beat into his head yet; rather, he walks out of this thinking something more along the lines of "That went better than I expected! But it was also really terrifying and I don't want it to happen again so I have to be really careful about how i feel now" OCD style. Because Siffrin feeling bad leads to the party feeling bad, so if Siffrin ceases to be bothered by anything then everyone and everything will be fine, right? Right. So now he's kind of, in a way, in a worse position than he started—still refusing to acknowledge his negative feelings, and consciously this time. But he's happier, since everyone is openly appreciating and loving him and telling him as much. And it does successfully keep MDP pretty docile, for the most part, which is nice. As long as Siffrin is content, it mostly just stands around ominously.
And for everyone else, since they also haven't had the COMMUNICATION IS IMPORTANT thing beat into them, they kind of just assume that... well, if MDP is quiet, Siffrin is probably doing pretty alright? (Which yeah does mean theyve all unintentionally put the Sadness in the emotional drivers seat.) And it would suck to have all that emotional stuff forced into the open, so they're not too keen on that happening again, so they're hoping Siffrin will open up more when he's ready now that he's been shown that they care. Which is not going to happen.
Some of the unresolved problems are:
• Odile and Bonnie never made plans for After, so Siffrin assumes they won't stick around
• Siffrin still has that whole "I'm disgusting for Wanting" thing going on, just a little lessened
• Siffrin thinking their worth is in their usefulness
• Bonnie.
Any of these (aside from Bonnie's thing, probably) could be resolved between the fic and Dormont, though I do think any feelings talks following the fic would have to be pretty directly after.
Now for how things might actually shake out, post-fic....
On the way to Dormont, they're all very gently nudging Siffrin, subtly asking leading questions, etc... And Siffrin does sometimes talk about the things that have already been talked about, and sometimes they even reveal a new Fact Of Life Assumption now that everyone is looking out for them... But usually they just seem fine.
When the croissant incident happens, it leads to MDP officially being dubbed Mal Du Pays via Odile's examine skill—it, I imagine, starts saying weird cryptic shit (related to Siffrin's deep subconscious memories of the island) that nobody understands and Siffrin struggles to explain, so Odile resorts to prying. MDP also starts moping and crying more. A feelings talk happens, and while Siffrin is really reluctant to talk much about it, it does help. Yay!
And then they reach Dormont! Siffrin probably wishes... hm, to not lose the people he cares about? Functionally similar to the canon wish, but with a different thought process behind it. Or for proof that he's "worth all the effort", or something along those lines.
