hey – stay with me. / from carter. bc injured reese is a common thing. lmao
John was only half aware of the arm that hooked around his back, catching his weight and easing him down to his hands and knees instead of letting him simply topple. He’d distantly heard the gunshot, too, but having a glass shatter over your skull… well, it wasn’t a recipe for a fun time.
His head spun for a good moment, and half of that looked like he might outright pass out, but eventually he eased back onto his knees, bringing a hand up to his temple where blood ran freely, painting a bright red swatch down the side of his face. White spots were still dancing faintly in his peripheral, but he shook his head, squinting a little as he turned to Carter.
“Thanks,” he said as the smell of stale beer and tobacco that seemed to linger in every bar slowly poured back into his awareness, along with the rest of his perception. The last guy he’d been fighting would have had an opening if she hadn’t taken him down, but as it was, he could hear the guy groaning and rolling on the floor a few feet away.
She kneecapped him, he thought with something resembling pride, storm green eyes seeking out hers. Slowly, he got to his feet.
“Maybe one of these guys can tell us where to find Leah Thompson.”
