haha nerds longing and shit
well you happened to catch me at a good time @tonal-modulator for a WIP Wednesday-ish (since it is thursday). I think I will post Sasha stuff...
“There is no other way. Tell Gwendis that I will miss her. She was always so full of… life.” For a moment, he looked lost in his mind, missing something that was still happening, or that had yet to even happen. “And – you.” His attention then turned back to her, and Sasha felt herself taken aback by the sheer emotion on his uncannily neutral face.
He reached out with one hand, and Sasha felt his thumb brush aside a tear that hadn’t yet fallen, suddenly overwhelmed by combination of what his deal meant and what was happening right now. His other reached down to squeeze her hand, and he smiled at her mournfully. A pained laugh – or was it a joyous sob? – came out of her unwillingly and she closed her eyes, letting the tear fall and soak her lashes. In the roar of the Doomcrag, they stood together alone.
He pulled her hand closer to himself and moved the one on her cheek to the back of her head, holding her against him. She felt the hand holding hers move to her lower back. Since he’d dropped his glamour in front of her, she had noticed he rarely mimicked the mortal action of breathing. Which made shaky inhale and sigh she felt against her chest all the more noticeable. She couldn’t see his face when he spoke.
“I wish we’d had more time.”
“Time?”
“For anything. Everything.”
She understood. She didn’t. But she did. And it hurt even worse to know.
Slowly, painfully slowly, he stepped out of the embrace, but remained in her breathing space. His hands had moved to gently hold her upper arms. When she finally opened her eyes again and looked up at him, he was already looking down at her. After a moment, he leaned down, just barely, and placed his lips at her hairline. Sasha felt her heart skip a beat, and before she knew it, it was over. He adjusted her circlet that had risen into her hair throughout the fight with Montclair, pushing it back down onto her forehead. It was then she noticed a glow on him, coming from behind her. She looked back instinctively but immediately realized: it was a portal.
She gasped and snapped her head back to him – but it was too late, and she felt herself falling. Falling. Falling.

“Look, everyone! We've got a survivor!”
cuties…
ANYWAY the reason I was really thinking about Hero lore so much was I had an idea that Sasha and Verandis met before she became the Vestige, sometimes in Rivenspire when she was with the mages guild. He had been antisocial for a long time, having watched so many mortals grow old and die that it hurt less to just stay detached, but he still had to visit the city every now and then for noble stuff.
And I like to imagine them just sorta meeting in passing. He comes up to her while she's doing some alchemy work or laughing with friends in the guild and asks if the the head of the hall is in. Or asks if she's seen a certain book around. Or makes some suggestion about alchemy. And they feel that tiny spark of Something that happens when two people, one being a Hero and the other being immeasurably tied up in their story at some future date, meet for the first time. You dont know what you feel but it's something and it feels important.
This feeling gets brushed aside quickly and almost entirely forgotten by the time they meet during the Covenant questline, but it happened regardless.
Thinkin about Sasha and Verandis and the vampirism debate. Sasha being afraid of growing old and dying while Verandis stays young and immortal and wanting to always be beside him. Verandis, while seeing his affliction as a gift rather than something that makes him a monster, does deep down recognize it to be something you should never intentionally give to someone, especially one you care about. Him wanting her to have a normal mortal life of aging and dying as to maintain the passion and spirit mortals have for existence. Immortality and watching everyone you love eventually die is tiring, draining.
It becomes a real source of background conflict in their relationship after a few years of marriage. Always lingering, never really dissipating.
I think I said that the album for Skylar (or Skylar and Fennorian) is Bastille's "Doom Days" so now I feel like I can say Arctic Monkeys "Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino" is Sasha and Verandis. If I had to pick one for Isla and Darien, I think I'd say Nate Ruess "Grand Romantic".
I think this really outs me as having very basic tastes in music asjakjfkajfaljf
