Verity 👻

She was... still so small.

“Why’re Transformers such a buncha size queens?”, echoed in his head and he tried to smile... but failed.

Magnus was mourning, Perceptor knew. Isolated and angry at himself, the Enforcer had shut down his comms and gone silent.

Perceptor remembered her, perched hapahazardly on Ironfist as they sailed away from the hellfire pit of Garrus 9. Remembered her climbing up on berths when the nightmares grew to be too much and remembered her tiny voice cutting like razor wire through the flickers of death and burning that sometimes rose before the optics of the unit.

His optics felt heavy and damp, and the heel of one hand moved to dry the better of the pair. Gently, ever so gently- like a child with a dusk butterfly in their clutches, he carefully scooped Verity into his hands.

He hurt. He hurt like when Ironfist had gone still and he hurt like when Top Spin and Twin Twist had gone cold and he hated how he hurt... He hated the acrid tang of regret in his intake and cradled cold little Verity in his hands.

“I’m sorry.”, he whispered.

He had no other words, no other words for an empty husk laying still in his hands like petrified bones lost to time.

They found him, asleep with his back against the table. Sitting on the floor with his legs crossed- Verity’s body curled on his shoulder and the temperature of ice.

A medic reached out, frowning, to pluck the dead organic from Perceptor’s frame only to find a pistol’s barrel nestled perfectly between their surprised optics.

“Do not. Touch her.”

Guts, Gore, Glory: LSOTW

“Sometimes, in the Wreckers, your first day is your last.”

“Last Stand of the Wreckers” (referred to from here on in as LSOTW) is a 5-part series chronicling the Wrecker mission to the prison-planet Garrus 9 in order to retrieve highly sensitive trial information from a supercomputer codenamed Aequitas.

The roster for this mission consisted of:

Springer

Kup

Perceptor

Top Spin

Twin Twist

Ultra Magnus (transport)

Verity Carlos (human)

The roster was then added onto with rookies/reserves and others named:

Pyro

Guzzle

Rotorstorm

Ironfist (non-Wrecker; author of Declassified; pen name Fisitron)

Impactor (inactive)

All but Impactor were present for mission briefing- Impactor came aboard during a minor disaster and informed the squad of Overlord’s takeover of the prison planet, where he had been incarcerated for previous charges. This change their directive from retrieval to rescue; upon realizing that there were Autobots and others still imprisoned on Garrus 9 and thus subject to Overlord’s sadistic rule.

Upon arrival on Garrus 9, the unit immediately split up and went in- this resulted in several casualties, each more horrifying than the last. Pyro and Rotorstorm, as well as Top Spin and Twin Twist, were casualties of the mission. 

However, there was a rescue made: Fortress Maximus, the warden of Garrus 9, was found being used as a living code generator: connected to the door and forced to enter password combinations in order to hopefully find the correct one and grant Overlord access. 

“The Decepticons are phishing for the access code to the chamber... Maximus is comatose, but they’ve got him entering billions of combinations. He’s a living lock pick.” - Perceptor, upon finding Fort Max’s mangled frame.

Perceptor disconnected him from the door safely as well as unlocked the way to Aequitas, and Fortress Maximus survived the ordeal- albeit suffering from severe trauma due to the physical torture he endured.

Twin Twist, Springer, and Impactor unfortunately are captured, and taken to the Spark Extraction Chamber of Garrus 9 (affectionately edited to be titled the ExtINction chamber) to be tortured by prisonmates. Due to Top Spin and Twin Twist being branched-sparks (a kind of twins), though, Top Spin begins suffering from “Vicarious Perception” - Seeing what his twin is going through, through his twin’s eyes.

Knowing his twin is being tortured, and will no doubt not survive it, Top Spin offers himself to be the sacrificed spark that unlocks Aequitas and will allow Perceptor to download the contents of the supercomputer to Ironfist’s processor. This kills him near-instantly, and as such also kills Twin Twist.

“Because if we’re gonna die, bro, then let’s at least do so with some semblance of dignity.” - Top Spin, just prior to unlocking the suicide lock.

With the information from Aequitas retrieved and the planet liberated from Overlord’s sadism, the Wreckers returned home; Ironfist, however, succumbed to an old injury that had resulted from a prototype accident in the labs- in “Bullets” (part of the extras included in the collected LSOTW hardback volume) it is revealed that this injury was actually an attempt on his life by his friend Skyfall as a way to remove Ironfist so that Skyfall could continue selling the scientist/chronicler’s work to the Decepticons.

After this mission, the Wreckers went their separate ways for the most part- the most notable absence is that of Perceptor, who joins the crew of the Lost Light in Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye.

The unit regroups for the events of Sins of the Wreckers; sans Perceptor.

Wreck week Day 3  : LSOTW style

In his tags, Josh Burcham asked for a Wreckers 2

I second that.

And more than that, I ask for a prequel of Wreckers. One where we see the team of Wreckers (before they had to call in some newbies) on Ultra Magnus' ship going through a wild, gory but ultimately hilarious adventure that will still rip our hearts in two.

Imagine Springer having some mentor/student moments with Kup.

Imagine Perceptor struggling to keep his newly acquired sniper persona, trying to learn what it truly is to be a Wrecker and having to stifle what is left of his old personality.

Imagine awesome characters that we know will have to die or be discharged in order to call in the newbies.

Imagine the heart-breaking moments as we see some of these characters having mental breakdowns that lead to their dischargement.

Imagine Ultra Magnus doing his job while a certain stowaway manages to make its way into his spark.

Imagine witnessing that moment where she starts calling him "Uncle Magnus"

Imagine Verity and Kup arguing.

Just imagine all that and dare to tell me it wouldn't be absolutly glorious.

Petition to have Verity on the Lost Light

Imagine:

Verity and Magnus meeting again after so long

Verity calling him “Uncle Magnus” in front of the whole crew

Verity having to face Magnus’ hurt after she had gone off to Garrus-9 with the Wreckers

Verity being allowed on Magnus’ desk despite the regulations because he missed her so much

Verity learning about Minimus Ambus and giving him a hard time with it by moving things out of their place to see if his reactions match the real Magnus’

Verity teasing him to no end by calling him “Russian doll” (to everyone’s confusion) or comparing their heigth whenever he’s out of the suit

Verity being dragged out on an outing by Minimus Ambus because he read about proper uncle/family behaviour and how to “spend quality time together”

Verity awkwardly asking him for a hug by telling him it’s also family stuff

Verity having that privileged relationship with Magnus we were hinted at but never really saw before

And Rodimus is so jealous
