5 OC facts: VERLEN LAVELLAN

He’s a very, very proud Dalish elf-- while he doesn’t possess the vast knowledge his sister has (who was the clan’s First), he is quick to defend his people.

That being said, he doesn’t have a very good relationship with Solas, and finds his personality grating, domineering, and haughty.

Verlen’s adopted-- his parents had longed for a child but we unable to conceive. He was found as a baby at the site of a raider attack.

The clan believes he’s a good luck charm-- after his parents adopted him, they were able to conceive their own child. The Keeper notes the Clan’s luck had turned around for the better after he had been brought into the family.

His favorite animal? A bear. They’re cute, they’re cuddly, but they can also rip a man to shreds. It’s something he aspires to be.

✯ - religious beliefs

she believes in the creators but is very very selective w/ her worship. she mostly cares for falon’din. she has rlly bad religious delusions about andrastianism after she becomes the Herald Of Andraste and thinks andraste is sending her messages until she goes into the fade. she has a little shrine for falon’din and when she finds dead things she tries to help them pass on. 

☼ - opinion of the Chantry

hates it. thinks it sucks. she thought it was shems in general who ruined the dales but when she finds out it was headed by the chantry shes like Oh Yeah Okay lol. shes pissed that the chantry sucks so bad. she doesnt know a lot about it until she becomes the herald and has to interact w ppl more. she was super sheltered lol. she doesnt like interacting with new ppl and was basically made to go to the conclave bc the keeper was like “you Need to get out more.”

she can read/write/speak common and can speak elvhen. elvhen is her first language & has an accent. she knows dalish sign language, which i headcanon to be very. specific to clans but like. has some commonalities btwn clans. so she knows lavellan sign language.

it bothers her when people say “nothing/nevermind” when she asks them to repeat something. she doesnt like when ppl bother her when shes busy or interrupt a conversation (which is smth that happens way more in the inquisition bc of the scouts and such). she loves the hissing wastes but hates getting sand in her clothes.

shes proud of learning to like. do things for herself. shes proud of dorian and sera like. immensely. shes proud of at least trying to heal, mental health wise

she regrets going to the conclave lmao. shes absolutely horrified that she plays such an important role in so many people’s lives

when she saved the inquisition soldiers from the avvar

right after defeating corypheus. he said some shit during the fight that Very much got to her so she absolutely shut down and freaked out for days

uhh idk these ones are hard. she gets echolalia a lot for new words of plants and things so after hearing them shell repeat them for herself for a while. she likes saying small phrases in elvhen as well. she likes keeping in practice. shes not very communicative with ppl outside her inner circle when she doesnt have to be

late drakonis, 9:19 dragon! shes 22 when she goes to the conclave. she was given to clan lavellan by her original clan when she was ~10, which was a couple years after she started manifesting her magic. her original clan had decided the next mage born to their clan would be given away andthat ended up being her. thus her name, verlen (taken child). she was always told by her clan and family that she was like. chosen for something greater and i guess it kinda turned out true but it messed with her world view to feel like she wasnt in control of herself and her decisions.
