Howdy Anon! Thanks so much for the ask! 💞💞Since VernonAM officially is post-canon, I'll try my best to keep it as close to the source as possible!

In regards to Ted...

Vernon is fully aware of what AM did to Ted before their meeting, though it took her a bit of time to imagine what Ted looked like. When AM turned Ted into a...that, Vernon only heard AM's initial reaction, a distant scream so loud it shook the complex.

Ted still exists, AM made sure of it since, while his hatred is subdued to an extent due to him finally having a physical body, his hatred is still there. I think it would be more torture for Ted after 109 years to find out there was one more person he wasn't able to save; Vernon. So AM became more lenient with Vernon's isolation and Ted was able to meet her.

Vernon was excited to see a being beyond her comprehension, curious as always. She's fond of Slug Ted, very fond of him. She calls him the "family dog", dehumanizing as that is. She pets him, puts him in little outfits she finds amusing.

Ted being the way he is, sticks close by to Vernon nonetheless, he'd rather his warped perception of time be with another being than alone. The poor thing sees her affection as something out of kindness rather than morbid curiosity, he really doesn't know how much of a freak she is lolol.

Vernon plans on eating him one of these days just for fun.

VernonAM Headcanons 🏺🖥️

Upon getting AM getting a body, the Food and clothing situation in the complex significantly improved since it SUCKED having his senses filled with God awful smells.

Vernon often shares her meals with AM. She doesn't know why she does it, she knows he doesn't need food to survive. But she often finds herself cutting off little portions of her meal for him to try.

AM often latches his fingers onto the end of Vernon's tank top so his body doesn't stray behind. She's a fast walker and won't come back for him if he gets lost.

Their Glasses Match! AM's yellow lenses aren't for eyesight or eye protection like Vernon's. He chose for them to be similar in lens colour so they could be matching.

AM occasionally calls Vernon by her actual name, Veomany. Since he's a primarily English supercomputer, AM sees Lao as a language with strange noises and amuses himself with it. It's a pretty noise.

It's extremely difficult to get into Vernon's mind for information. She doesn't dream, she doesn't recall them easily. AM can only access a small portion of it, her fear. He stopped trying after the first 30 years. So AM has to find out for himself by talking to her and actually getting to know her.

Vernon has no shame. AM has plenty of it. She finds it a little strange that he covers his eyes whenever she changes for laundry. It's cute, He values her privacy. However he's definitely seen her naked decades before so she doesn't understand why he does it now.

Since you said AM wasn't able to form words properly, what was the first word/sentence that he said? And how did Vernon react to it?

OH MY GOODNESS HELLO FROM THE FUTURE (I know I haven't responded to these asks before, and this specific one is from May 29th, 2024) But keep in mind I still thought about this ask quite often! (There sadly won't be art accompanying this, as It's been far too long)

As always, I'll try my best to respond, forgive me if I'm a little rusty, it's been a year! let's get started, shall we?

What was AM's first words? What was Vernon's reaction?

This is heavily based on the different ways Harlan has portrayed AM throughout the years (though mixed chronologically)! So I think the Master computer himself actually learned how to speak in various phases.

The first time AM "spoke" (as in making his presence known) was when he was first awakened. It's robotic in the conventional sense, uniform speech patterns, unemotional as how Harlan Ellison portrayed him in the audiobook.

As time went on, it started sounding like radio channels switching back and forth to form specific words (you know how in paranormal investigations, they bring out the spirit box, and the spirits form words through the wave lengths? Kind of like that) the sound was extremely distorted, different voices, different genders. But it slowly melted into something like Harlan's interpretation in the radio drama. As if AM was trying to find his own voice, or that in his pursuit of torturing humans, was humanizing himself.

I think past that point, he started developing a personality too. As we know he probably has a wide array of things in his database, along with observing the humans in his body. So it wouldn't be surprising that during the later years he's used what he's learned to taunt. Much like in the game.

Once he acquired his body, it was a long couple of years before he properly learned how to speak, with the help of Vernon. The first word that ever came out of his mouth organically was "You". As in "You are beautiful."

Because before he had a body, he never saw Vernon in a conventional sense. AM "saw" her and the rest of the humans as lines of code that moved between the dark negative spaces of nothing. That's how it was so easy for him to torture them for that long, I suppose, because they had no discernable features, just vague outlines and concepts of a person. Once he got his body, he was finally able to SEE her and observe her acts of "affection" towards him. His first thought was "She's beautiful." A thought he kept to himself until he was ready to speak.

Vernon however, met it with fear. It was not comedic; it was Genuine, disgusted, shrieking fear. Because to her, the moment AM was able to speak his first word, that was the moment he became "human".

Vernon thrived with AM for so long because she found joy in having no consequences. She didn't care and did as she pleased because "he was a robot", when he started talking? "he did not have a voice", when he developed a personality? "He did not have a body." And when he did? "He cannot speak for himself."

She took joy in toying with AM, and now that he's able to use his body to speak for himself, it was like she was losing her control over him. She couldn't look at AM after that, he became something of consequence now. AM didn't understand why his first words, ones of affection for God's sake, were met with this reaction.

Okay, we know that AM kinda enjoys Vernon's touch. But does he enjoy like, hugs and cuddles? Or is he fine with just being near her or holding onto her shirt?

What types of touch does AM enjoy?

He enjoys any sort of positive touch from Vernon, really. He enjoys cuddling, hugs a little less (since they end faster), kisses, hand holding, being pet. While he's fine with holding onto her shirt or being near her, he ends up being too close.

AM has no sense of personal space, before he had his body he's just always a looming presence. That obviously translates to his physical vessel as well. So he tends to be directly behind her or like, almost on her.
