Parent Teacher Talks | Claire and Derek

It wasn't something that Claire often did, because she believed that most behavioral problems tended to work themselves out given time. Even so, little Talia Hale was only getting worse. The adorable little girl was picking fights and hadn't calmed down, and even though it wasn't far into the year, she was nearly at her wits end.
It was lunch time, her class of kindergartners under the watchful eye of the first grade teacher and the lunch ladies. Claire sat at her desk in the corner of her classroom, Talia Hale's little folder of information spread out in front of her. She dialed the number listed and waited for Talia's father to answer. When the phone went to voice mail, she sat up a little straighter.
"Hi Mister Hale. This is Ms Novak, Talia's teacher calling. There's nothing wrong, Talia's fine, but I would like to talk to you about a few things if you have time. I'm available at school for the hour before school starts, the half hour for lunch and recess, and for the hour after school. I'm also available outside of school by appointment if none of these times works for you, and you can contact me at through the school or at [gives cell phone number] if it's outside of school hours."
She barely fumbled with the message, and was very proud of herself when she finally signed off with, "Just to say it again and allay any fears - Talia is perfectly fine. Hope to hear back from you soon, Mister Hale. Have a nice day." Claire still had a few minutes before the kiddies were due back from recess, and she took those minutes to ground herself. Phone calls always shook her and probably always would.
