ITEM 082: Empty Bottle of Givenchy Very Irresistible Eau de Parfum Found on: 6/13/15 Materials: metal, glass, fragrance (chemicals) Damage/wear: empty, scratched Provenance: one of two LVMH Fragrance Brands plants -- either 7 Avenue Montaigne, 60000 Beauvais, France, or Place de la Liberté, 02140 Vervins, France. Production details: Givenchy, the luxury French haute couture brand, was founded in 1952, with its perfume division added in 1957. A famous 50s ad campaign featured a perfume made for Audrey Hepburn called L’Interdit. In response to growing demand, Parfums Givenchy constructed a factory in Beauvais in 1968, and a second one in Vervins in 1995. In 1988 it joined LVMH, the French multinational luxury goods conglomerate whose subsidiaries also include Dior, Fendi and other similar brands. LVMH stands for Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, since it was the outcome of a merger first between Moet (champagne) and Hennessy (cognac) and then of Moet Hennessy with Louis Vuitton (apparel and bags).  This perfume is one (”Eau de Parfum”) in a series of three that also includes “Eau de Toilette” and “Intense.” Date or date range: late 2000s based on all-caps font on the bottle Still in production: yes Rare: no Still attainable from: Macy’s, Amazon, Sephora Value: $50-60 Use: This would have been used by someone (likely a woman) who wanted to evoke notions of freshness and spontaneity through her fragrance. This scent is supposed to be “an homage to Givenchy’s early days when fashion and cinema were intertwined” and to give the image of elegance with pizzazz. Such a combination is perhaps embodied by a 2009 TV commercial in which Liv Tyler recklessly drives a speedboat down the Seine at night.  Archivist note: In the name of this perfume, “irresistible” is pronounced in the French way (ˌɪrɪˈzɪst ɪbəl).
