growing up, my mother was always trying to teach me critical thinking with one breath ["if you don't understand what something means, you should look it up in the dictionary" "what do you think the lyrics of this song mean? let's discuss."] and unilateral obedience to authority with the other ["Because I Said So."].

I'm real glad she taught me the skills I needed to see that she was bullshitting me. It was incredibly frustrating to be her child, though. So often, a parent is their own downfall.
