hi rania how are you pookie? 🥹 i wanted to ask a few questions about puppy adoption! i remember how excited you were for your puppy how was the process for you? did you want a specific breed? what research did you do? i’m planning on adopting and need some guidance and you’re the only dog person i know 🥹

hi vesper !!!! i'm doing okay, how are you pookie ? 🥺 and AHHH you're thinking abt adopting i'm literally so excited for you DFJKSDF. my sister was actually the one who adopted my dog before giving her over to me haha but i'll try and be as helpful as i can cuz it's def more than just walking into an adoption centre and picking out a random doggo!

honestly i've always had a breed in mind (a corgi) but if i were to adopt myself i'm quite open to anything!!

i do recommend doing research beforehand!! search up things like breed temperament (some breeds are can be more stubborn, more clingier, more independent, more high-energy, etc). think if you want a dog that's more like a cuddle bug or a walking buddy? would you be okay with shredding and frequent grooming? it helps all narrow it down 🙂‍↕️

try and find the perfect doggo who matches your lifestyle--consider how often are you at home or how active you are in general. i'm a homebody myself but honestly getting a doggo has encouraged me to take more walks and embrace ~nature~ DJSFKLDFS and i will be forever grateful for that hehe

definitely look at multiple places if you want to! my sister said that while she and her boyfriend were looking at other dogs, she felt this sort of SPARK with her when she found her and it was like she knew that yes 🤓☝️ she is the one. some places offer trial periods where you can take the doggo home and see how they bond with you!

before she gave her to me i prepped the home! bought a lil bed for her, food and water bowls, toys and treats she may like, etc. she was already potty trained from getting her so didn't need to worry abt that, but if you need to get a potty pad then do it! you can ask the shelter for more info if the doggo is already potty trained or not, or ask more info on their background in general (like allergies, if they’re mixed breeds, and such). most shelters should have doggos updated on their vaccinations and if they're spayed/neutered as well

and just remember: consistency is key!!! and it's so rewarding to see how they trust you more and more every day djslfkdsjfs i love doggos they deserve the world UGH
