' emma, is something wrong ? ' the explanation on his plan was finished and most of the children had left, leaving him with emma, ray, don and gilda. though the last time he saw her face like that was before he left the farm.
“ i …. —— ” her face was still relatively pale, heart beating eerily slowly inside her chest, after a “speech” like that it pretty much put her system in a type of shell-shock. it seemed to mostly go unnoticed though, as the attention was focused solely on him, lost in the sounds of applause and cheer in promotion of nothing short of “justified” genocide. you think in some way, she would support such a outrageous proposal — as back in gracefield house, those demons literally saw one of her precious siblings as merchandise, nothing more, arguing amongst themselves for a single taste of her grayed fingertip. it’s a fear she’ll never forget in her entire life. it’s a fear almost all of her shipped out siblings most likely felt, right before departing in such a horrific manner. but then, emma can remember the gentle kindness of sung-joo and musica, demons who’s religion doesn’t allow them to eat humans of not “pure” origin. they also taught them how to survive, hunt, how to not be noticed. those “heartless demons” saved her precious family’s life once again. then she thinks back to those villages, filled with stocks upon selections of cheap, dirty meat, but even then demons struggled to eat food, families of these demons — just like there’s. since the very beginning, her big plan was to somehow rework the sacred promise and be able to cross into the human world safely. ideally, with no conflict on either side. norman hasn’t seen any of what she’s experienced on the outside. she desperately wanted to explain why this isn’t right calmly, reason with him, suggest another way. but it comes out as:
“ are out of your mind ?! — ” her voice heightens, pitch slightly shrilled and even a little fearful. just recalling that look of vindication in his blue eyes ( before filled with such love and compassion ) while he promoted mass-murder, well, simply put, it scared her to death. and she didn’t like it, not one bit. “ y-you can’t be serious … norman… ? ”how many decades had it been since her tone sounded so feeble? that institution he stayed at, did they change him, or was this all of his own accord — it terrified her just to theorize about it. “ this isn’t the way, and before you say anything i know very well of w-what they’re capable of. ” it once didn’t cross her mind that demons weren’t anything but heartless, ruthless murderers, who only worried about if their next meal. but so much has changed, with everything that’s happened, emma is confident that this is wrong and couldn’t hope to be right. “ listen to me — you haven’t seen what me and ray have. there are demons who don’t eat human- meat a-at all. ” her fists tighten, stance turning more defensive trying to make her point across. “ in fact, if it weren’t for one of them, ray would’ve been sent back to gracefield to die ! ” chills run down her spine at the mere memory, but she continues pressing onward: “ there are villages of demons, they … h-have culture, families, i saw two little children when w-we went to acquire information. ” this wasn’t right at all — nor was it morally okay. her stomach twisted in all kinds of directions just imagining raising a gun to a child, human or not, to slay them at a chance for freedom. “ are you going to eradicate demons who willingly choose not to eat meat, or a newborn, who has no knowledge of the world, naive and innocent, norman — ” you can’t be serious. you can’t do this. her eyes shut once more, throat dry as she inhales hesitantly. she wasn’t the same, naive little girl that could be manipulated or tricked into “agreeing” with a heinous action such as this. it hadn’t worked back then, and it wasn’t going to now. call her stubborn as a mule, whatever, but she isn’t going to budge at all.
her green eyes slowly reopen, a look of overwhelming sadness overtaking features, as if the girl hadn’t wanted to speak her next words --- but they had to be spoken, made loud and clear: “ i’m s-sorry but …. i can’t and never will support something like this. there has to be another way. ” and neither will emma accept anything but another solution, plain and simple.
@vestigares thanks i hate it .
