I am pissed. I took Vlad to the vet today for his usual steroid injection for his gum problem and we didn't get the usual female vet. We got the male one, the one who euthanized Cocoa the January before this past one.
He was VERY rough with Vlad. He forced open Vlad's mouth and claimed all of Vlad's teeth were bad and we should really start making arrangements to have the surgeries to have all his teeth removed. The female vet had told us Vlad's teeth were fine. But he said Vlad has cavities and other gum diseases, besides what we're treating with the steroid injection. He was trying very hard to fast talk us into having all of Vlad's teeth removed even thogh I know there are other options. Also he claimed Vlad's teeth were all bad. I know that's not true because Vlad can eat just fine after the injections.
So he gives the injection (only on my insistence) and then also puts Vlad on twenty days of antibiotic.
Then, at the front register I over hear the girls talking and find out he's lowered Vlad's steroid dosage. I suspected they were lowering it since it suddenly didn't last as long but now I had proof.
And to top it all off, poor Vlad has lost half a pound. My grandfather wants a second opinion but I want (from now on) to only deal with the female vet. She's gentle with Vlad and acknowledges there are other alternatives to his condition besides ripping out all his teeth. I didn't like how quick he was to say all of Vlad's teeth were bad when she had assured me his teeth were fine. I had suspected a cavity when I first brought him there last summer. And now this guy (the same guy who had me put down Cocoa) is claiming Vlad's mouth is loaded with cavities and all sorts of other problems. He even listed off tarter as if that's a valid reason to remove all my cat's teeth.
I know the steroid might cause damage down the road but it works for now. Also I know there are other alternatives like a bimonthly medication and the female vet had mentioned a mouth spray last time we were there. I REALLY don't like this guy.
And to top it all off my grandfather has skin cancer again. They got the biopsy back. It's the easy to treat one but they want to surgically remove it next Wednesday.
