What about a destiel veterinarian!au??
I love vet!Cas. He’d own his own animal clinic and he’d take the care of his fluffy little patients very seriously.
I just can’t decide if I like the idea of Dean being a pet owner or a vet tech better. Because on one hand, you have Dean with cats (I know he’s allergic but we’re gonna ignore that) that he babies the shit out of. And Cas can’t help find the sight of this big tough looking dude making baby noises to his fuzzy gray kitten adorable.
On the other hand, Dean as a vet tech talking to all the animals. He’d bicker at the birds, because they squawk a lot and even though they’re not actually saying anything, Dean would have his own little arguments with them
”These scrubs do not make my ass look fat, Polly. You’re just covering up for your crippling self-esteem issues.”
The bird squawks “I’m a pretty bird”
To which Dean responds “You may have nice feathers but you’re a dick”
And Dean fawning over puppies and kitties and trying his best to be nice to the weird kids who bring in their weird rats (because rats are gross. guinea pigs are okay because if you shave one it looks like a hippo, but rats are gross) And, of course, Dean comforting small children who worry about their sick pets.
Cas tries really hard not to laugh at Dean’s antics and because of that Dean thinks he doesn’t like him at all. That’s why Dean stops making so many jokes at work. And that of course concerns Cas because Dean’s not acting right. So, Cas does the only logical thing he can think of, ask everyone but Dean what’s wrong. After many theories (”maybe he’s going through family stuff”, “maybe he broke up with someone”, “maybe he’s sick”, “maybe he’s just decided to quit being a dick to everyone” “he’s only a dick to you, meg”) it’s Charlie who tells him they both need to get their heads out of their asses and makes sure the two of them have the same appointments for the next three days. Eventually, Cas asks and some awkward conversation later they both realize that they’re reading waaaay to much into each other and agree to go out for lunch and finally talk like regular humans. (Which of course leads to good conversation, shameless flirting, doubts about whether or not they’re reading into the shameless flirtation and another lunch date)
Ultimately, it’s Dean’s Dr. Doolittle routine that finally gives him away. He’s talking to a box of kittens about Cas, specifically about how their adorable little squinting it too much like Cas’s adorable little squinting when Cas walks into the room. Cas of course, blurts out “you think I’m adorable”
And Dean fumbles a response that’s something like “well, you, eyes, blue, you know? it’scuteorwhatever.”
Cas just chuckles and asks Dean to dinner, making absolutely sure that he understands it’s a date-date.
