I had a blast doing a veterinary kids talk with Chicago-area kids last week via Zoom!  There were over 448 students!    Dr. Contreras spoke out against new legislation that is pending in Springfield which would misclassify highly potent pyrotechnic devices. To our pets, fireworks are equivalent to bombs going off around humans- it feels as though the world is ending. They don't understand why the loud noises are happening, nor can they predict when they will happen again, and so a flight or fright response kicks in.  This can cause animals to get badly hurt, hurt themselves, hide, or even go into seizures.  Allowing for the widespread sales of fireworks in Illinois will only make it worse on pets. #vetbros #vbpecf https://www.instagram.com/p/CNxsiwhJV8_/?igshid=74gtbew1tk7j
