Sometimes when someone posts something about Goncharov I've never seen I get confused before I remember they fumbled the release so BADLY that of course there's other dialogue/scenes.
Like they wanted to throw in an extra vhs of behind the scenes/meet the crew to be sent off with the original Goncharov right? So they told the distributor to make copies and send everything off.
For foreign releases they just boosted the music to the point you can't hear the actors and sent if off with a script and some b-roll to help match up the mouths to speech. Not the worst, except they did that to English speaking countries too! So the whole film had to be redubbed in English multiple times. Oh but that's not the worst part.
They sent EVERYTHING off. All the b-roll from scenes, all the deleted stuff, all the bloopers, all the previous versions, the highest quality they could. And that's like, hundreds of hours of film. And sending all that to every distribution team is expensive. So they stopped that quick- except they screwed up again so some places only got the b-roll and previous scripts. So everyone had to piece together the movie from scratch its hilarious.
It's why the Japanese version is so comedic, at the beginning Matteo wasn't sure how upbeat he wanted goncharov so there were a few drafts before Martin Scorsese came on-board that were so much softer (maybe even harder) than the original release.
I personally saw the polish subbed version,(the mirror of it is now busted though ;^;) which really makes Katya more mysterious, since it hides her darker side until the betrayal scenes.
Honestly I really love talking about the disaster distribution of this film was. But I love how it makes the fandom so much more chaotic, since there's always something new to find. I love it. So if you see a link to it you gotta watch it bc who knows what version it is, you know?
