Captions are from I Saw the TV Glow! Film has reminded me of Dess for a long while, and I finally decided to lock in on a piece about it.
The way I see it, the only things we know about Dess are from people in the game. And at certain points, it doesn’t seem like she aligns with what the people around her want/expect from her. As. atrans person, I can very much relate, but I also relate to the way everyone is so ambiguous about what happened to her. At the beginning of my transition, it felt like a grieving process from quite a few people in my life, and it never made sense cause I was still the same person. People use so much different language for Dess, and it makes me think a little more into what exactly is going on there.
Not saying she is necessarily trans, but she certainly reminds me a lot of how it feels to be transgender. You’re caught between who you know you are and how other people perceive you at all times. It makes for an odd sense of self at points..and idk, Dess inherently embodies that a lot
Throw some Roaring Knight into the mix for good measure because I have always liked Dess-Knight theory the best..and you’ve got this lmao
I never do comics, and I am quite scared of them, to be honest! Which is funny because I want to make comics!! But this was FUN AS HELL and a great way to grow!! I love doing stuff like this cause it helps me learn more about the process and develop a style for my own layouts and all.
Time to go hop on tha Rune and see if this theory even holds water anymore lmao cause I’ve played all of 15 minutes of the game
