Tear Gas and Rage at Puerto Rico's Massive Protests
On November 1st, I attended the national high school journalism convention in Chicago for the weekend. I traveled there with my journalism class and attended some of the best lectures I’ve had and met some of the best people.
Going to Chicago, I was having a hard time creating things; especially for the blog, but upon arriving back home, the things that I saw really inspired me. I went to the chicago art museum, the one that Ferris Bueller goes to, and was so affected by the ingenuity of all the works of art. For example, they had a visual exhibit in a room where a bunch of old TVs were stacked on top of each other, kind of like on SZA’s album cover, and on it, a series of images were playing on the screen with a certain pattern that synchronized them together to create an experience that was so profound. I’ve been really interested in visual art recently, especially the kinds that incorporate old technology, and the exhibit that I went to perfectly meshed the mediums together to create an amazing piece of art.
Another highlight of my weekend was attending a lecture given by VICE news. Yes. THAT VICE. It was a panel discussion with the people that worked on their IG TV show, 18 with issues, which discussed issues that impacted American teens of all different social, ethnic, political, and religious backgrounds that led up to the midterm elections. The show was hosted by activist Em Odesser, and at the time I didn’t know about her. Little did I know that I was about to have one of the best conversations I’ve ever had!
After the lecture, I got up to see if I could talk to Em and once I had the chance, another girl chimed into our conversation as well. I honestly can’t remember what we were talking about, but I’m pretty sure it was political, feminist, and badass. Afterwards, Em, Gigi (the girl that talked with us), and I took a picture and exchanged social medias. Now Gigi and I are friends and I’m so happy that I have someone there to discuss this crazy blog and this crazy world with.
Going into this convention, I was so lost and wasn’t sure of what I wanted to do with this blog or my future, but just by talking to these like minded individuals, reminded me of my goals and my passions. After that, I couldn’t stop thinking or shaking off the giddy feeling of inspiration that I was so excited to translate into important content. Now that it’s 2019, I can’t help but relish the new beginning that is at our disposal. I’m so excited to keep creating and keep the difficult conversations going so that we may be able to see the fruits of our labor. Cheers to 2019 and new beginnings and renewed intentions!

♀ I watched a video from @vice about the rise in female body guards in China, due to an increase in billionaire business women. They choose unlikely looking petite lady's, who have actually trained for years to take down anyone threatening their boss. I fully recommend you watch it - it's INSANE.
