main way to tell the brothers apart is kouta doesn't wear a mask, a big part of sign language is facial expression. he also ironically lost the same eye as his younger brother, but it was because of another birth defect. he was born with one dark colored eye and really pale colored eye that eventually went blind so he decided to have it removed.
