Have recently been rereading the Vicky Bliss series by Elizabeth Peters and given your profession and detective obsession, I thought I might rec them to you if you haven't yet read them. Art historian (she starts out as an American university professor) murder mysteries and shenanigans with jewel thieves and such.
These sound like a lot of fun, and I feel as though they've been recommended to me before, and yet I have not read them! I do enjoy Elizabeth Peters for light reading, though. Thanks for the rec.

Having finally got round to rereading a Vicky Bliss post-Lymond, I'm even more convinced it's contemporary Lymond/Philippa fic.
I mean OK, John doesn't have the trauma and self loathing of Lymond, but he's blond and blue eyed and snarky and full of literary quotes and he gets quite satisfactorily whumped on the regular so I'm not complaining.
Best Declarations of Love #1
I’m starting a new series that will be filled...whenever I find declarations of love worthy of this award. Hahaha.
First of we have the declaration of love from John Smythe/Tregarth/Whatever he’s going by this week to one Victoria Bliss, art historian extrordinaire in the book Trojan Gold by Elizabeth Peters.
[Img Description: Text from the page of a book with the author Elizabeth Peter’s name at the top. The text reads “I love you,” he said flatly. “I-love-you. Shall I elaborate? I have loved you. I do love you. I will love you. I didn’t want to love you. I tried not to love you. I will undoubtedly regret loving you, but-God help me-I love you-so much-” “That’s what I thought you said,” I murmured.]
I'm on The Laughter of Dead Kings--the final Vicky Bliss book--and Feisal's love interest, Dr. Saida Qandil makes me think she was fashioned after real life Salima Ikram. Saida is very energetic and exciting, and she's knowledgeable in 19th dynasty mummification techniques. I have a book about mummification by Dr. Ikram, so I'm very curious as to if I'm correct.
