But… but… to alert you of what??
Theoretically? The system was supposedly designed to warn of national-level Bad Things Happening. The current alert systems (like weather, Amber Alerts, etc.) are regional/local. People in Ohio don't need a notification of a tornado warning affecting three counties in Montana, you know? So they're only sent out locally, to cell towers in the affected area. The theory is if there were some National Disaster-- like a terrorist attack or an invasion or whatever-- that the President should have the power to alert EVERYONE at once. But like... is this really necessary, and what are the potential ramifications for abusing this system?
It's all just a bit too 1984 for me to actually trust that it won't be abused. Especially considering the giant attention hog of a toddler sitting in the oval office right now...
