This is so fucking infuriating it's been getting at me for so long.

The way people operate in this world, the way they react to someone being unjustly treated or abused.. when a woman gets assaulted what do we tell them? Be more careful, try to protect yourself, avoid going to that place, don't travel alone, when someone's identity or credit card gets stolen or their online accounts get hacked and expenses taken out of their account by an impostor, what do their friends and family have to say? Be more careful, more mindful of what you do with these details,

yeah it's good advice if you want to avoid it happening in future, but why is society as a whole taking the complacent stance against wrongdoings, instead of saying "that's outrageous! how could someone do something like that! we should bring them to justice" people are so quick to try and correct the victim's behaviour, like we're trying to mould ourselves into avoidance instead of taking a stand and fighting back. How can it be right to allow people or even condition people into feeling it's their fault for not walking home with somebody at night, or for feeling like they are able to relax when doing something normal, fun. I hate that we live in a world where I can't walk home at night without, not only fearing for my own safety, but fearing that I'll be blamed entirely for something bad happening to me.

It's even worse when people say but that's just how the world is, the reason the world is that way is because of people who accept it, and don't bother, don't make an attempt to change that. That is not an excuse, that is an observation, an observation that only exists because of (as previously stated) complacent behaviour toward it. We all live in this world, we have to, why wouldn't you want to make this a place worth living in.
