the look he returns is curious, and a little surprised. neither of them are talking about hauntings in the typical sense, he’s sure. not even sure that he believes in ghosts in the ‘true’ sense. if he were one, he would rattle all the pantries and throw all the curtains until the people he loved knew he was still around.
“that’s um. that’s a tough question?” steps slow, and he wonders about the campsite in all the news headlines. he doesn’t know anyone that hadn’t heard a story or two about what happened at crystal lake, and he wonders if she thinks of that place the way he thinks of the bridge--like scorched earth. “...i think, like--that maybe our memories of places can be haunted.” then again, things in jersey inherently seemed to be haunted, crawling with monsters and trauma and mediocrity.
“...and, uh. sometimes i think my house, without my parents, is kind of haunted. like they’re in all the stuff in our drawers, and the picture frames, and the furniture, y’know?“ everything in his parents house felt touched by their death, all half-complete grocery lists and unopened boxes-- like a museum he doesn’t like treading at night. he looks away, careful pause hanging between them. “so... i think our experiences... kind of bring meaning to it. does that make sense?”
@victoriasterling / ASKED ! : ❝ my family was never the touchy-feely type. ❞
IT’S THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO SET UP THE CAMPFIRE, and truly whose idea that was shocks steve. not that he would consider himself useless, he’s kinda good with kids lately. but it’s the doing things that he hasn’t really done since he was freaking 10 where he finds himself questioning if being here was even a good idea. HE SHRUGS, he doesn’t know how they ended up here in the conversation but he goes along with it anyway. he smiles, sorta soft. sorta rounded as he keeps looking for wood. weird thing to talk about, family matters usually stay with family. or there’s no one around to hear him whine about it.
“ i guess, my family wasn’t either...dunno what that says about me-” he chuckles, feeling off about being so damn honest. it’s summer camp, and whatever happens at summer camp steve guesses it stays at summer camp.

▌█ ∵ 💋 ∵ █ ▌ ❝ Kinda sad. ❞ Fingers curl into her backpack tighter gaze looking down. She had only ever been close to death in the sense she had to learned how to understand it from her youth after her mother. It broke her heart, even if the stories weren’t true she can’t imagine if the tables were turned on Pamela. After a moment hands plucked wild flowers before setting them down lightly on the grave and looking back to Victoria softly. ❝ Let’s go, I’m getting hungry and a graveyard is really a mood killer. Let’s tell the others so we can block it off when the kids get here.❞
@victoriasterling liked for a starter. | DBD!Survivor Victoria ◬ scratch marks. obvious hints where the survivors went, provided so generously by the entity. the other killers relied heavily on them. but this one? he didn’t need to see them; to know that his next victim just trapped herself. ⸺ a locker? really? had none of the others told her this won’t work? not with him, not with the red pyramid. he lingered outside the row of lockers. he wondered if she knew that he knew? or did she assume he was just confused, looked for her? assuming he had lost her? at least she caught him on a mood – to play with his food. he slowly moved again and positioned himself in front of the locker. the one that she was currently hiding in. a few feet away. but right in the field of vision the vent slits in the locker granted her. and just stood there. what the hell was he doing?! well, he just waited. waited to see what she would do. would she dare to slip out and make a run for it? would she choose to just endure the horror, the possibility of him lunging at her hiding spot and tearing it apart any second dangling over her like a fabled sword? it wouldn’t matter if the woman chose to go for that, if she chose to waste his time. the taste of psychological terror was just as delicious as bloodlust.
@victoriasterling said: ' oh, i wasn’t expecting to see you here. '
he opens his mouth to respond, and the words hang useless in his throat for a minute. eyebrows furrow, because there’s the perplexing need to apologize, for being here, for existing, for accepting an invitation expressly offered to him. maybe it’s the clamour of the party around them, and the way people brushed too close, but he’s suddenly not so sure this had been a good idea.
“...yeah, i uh. try to avoid things like this, but--” there’s another uneven pause--he’s not sure when he forgot entirely how to speak. and really, he should know better. settings like this are typically bad news--at least in crystal lake, where everyone knew his face and every colourful rumour under the sun. around so many locals, it’s only a matter of time before the other shoe drops. “i guess i thought--it’d be rude? to not show up.” at least for a short while. heels shift and hands find his jacket pockets. he's dropping gaze from hers with a short laugh; “i’ll uh, be on my best behaviour. i promise.”

victoriasterling replied to your post: i Could use a queue but why do that when i can...
can i just say i was literally just having this discussion with myself about whether or not i should use start using a queue and you validated me
i’ve used one in the past!!! it can Definitely be useful if like, you’re going to be offline for a few days & you have the drive to Do Replies Now. also staggering them helps if you start to get overwhelmed by How Many Replies You Have??? i’m just Big Dummy and don’t feel like doing the thirty seconds of effort to set one up again rn sdhgfkjshs
