Unsteady by @victuri-oh-nice is one of the first otayuri fics that I read from start. It was still a one-shot and then it became this fabulous multi chapter fic. It introduced me to a new set of songs, inspired me to do more art practice and just let my mind run away with it.
I will definitely miss it, but what if’s and POVs from other characters fill my mind. A couple of characters stand out for me in terms of “what is Unsteady from their POV” kind of thing.
Here is Chris and his pre-Unsteady POV:
* Chris didn’t even know he was going to end up working with Yuri. And Yuri had no idea either. One day, Viktor figured that this punk of a kid needs someone with him all the time because of the troubles he could get into. Hence, Chris. Yuri goes “I don’t need a babysitter, for crying out loud, Viktor!” He just glares at the new guy and flips a finger at Viktor before storming off.
* Within the first week of work, Yuri gets a fairly big gig in some kind of fancy venue and gets in major trouble by pouring a drink over some guy who called him fairy. Chris was there to intervene but he didn’t get to do it well since Yuri’s temper was just so crazy that time. He was also probably drunk at that point. And Viktor scolded both of them to no end. Chris wasn’t fired because he got Yuri home alive and in one piece. Maybe with a bit of a bruised ego after all that scolding but that happened when they got home.
* Yuri and Chris couldn’t stand each other for the first two weeks or maybe even close to a month. But Viktor wouldn’t let Chris quit. And Chris had no real reason to quit the job. No matter what Viktor told Yuri, he’d be rebellious and get himself away from Chris’ as much as he can.
* Within a month of working with Yuri, something major happens and he is able to save the young musician. And Yuri just hates him but can’t help but have some kind of respect for the guy. Chris never let Viktor ever find out about whatever trouble it was and Yuri is forever grateful for it. Not that he’d ever say it out loud.
* Chris would ALWAYS find Yuri in the middle something when he’s out - whether he’s in a gig, shopping, or whatever - Yuri just seems to find a whole lot of people pouncing on him. Or, well, Yuri pouncing on people. Whether that’s a violent kind of pouncing or something else, that’s another story.
* Yuri’s groupies are wild af. Chris had to get Yuri some stuff to disguise him oh so quickly. Yuri couldn’t believe what Chris got for him: “A tiger onesie, Chris? Really?” With raised eyebrows, he wore the onesie because at least he’s covered up. Chris got one for himself and Yuri called it quits because Chris looked ridiculous in a cow onesie.
* Yuri hates it when Chris blocks the most gorgeous fans who just want an autograph. They end up asking out Chris. Chris could be a giant flirt sometimes, just to divert his fans away but does he have to take away every single good looking one?! Really??
* Chris was there during Yuri’s dark phase. If he thought his first month of working with Yuri was bad, it became catastrophically worse. Viktor then had to bribe Chris to stay because he couldn’t handle things by himself and they both knew that no one who’d try to take Chris’ place would survive.
* It was amusing when Chris first heard Yuri talk about another person, someone based in Almaty. He knew Yuri liked it when his fans would cover his songs well or do some artwork for him. It’s just whenever they were driving, Yuri would insist on this certain mix of Unsteady to be played on loop.
* And then Yuri decided to fly to Almaty, Kazakhstan to see the one who did the Unsteady Remix. Viktor was shocked because a DJ was already touring with Yuri. Yuri insisted and had his way, on the condition that Chris was going to be there.
There are hints of what Chris thinks during the series and maybe one of these days, I could run away with possible ideas on that.
