Vidders.net Social Network Newsletter
New & Improved Network Coming Soon
Vidders.net is the largest streaming vidding network online. Professors & students worldwide have used videos on the network for their academic research (based on member profile info). Vidders have found it a haven for artistic expression. It is AO3 certified. It is an independently vidder friendly network that caters to those who appreciate Vidding. The next version of this community will be a "Game Changer" for both viewers and vidders. Many months of work have gone into what we feel will be the next evolution of this vidding community. Our ability to leverage and capitalize on prior accomplishments is a ramp to a brighter future.
This moment almost never existed
When I say this moment almost never existed I'm talking about you reading this email right now. This network started out as Bamvidvault in February 2009. In July 2010, Ning (the platform this site is run on) went from free to paid. The original creators contemplated shutting down the entire network which at the time had about 14,000 members and over 19,000 videos. This would mean everything would have been deleted by Ning including this network's ability to send you this email. Under new management and with the support of a few committed members of the community, money was raised to save & maintain the network. That was 4 years ago. Since that time, an additional 4,000+ members have joined including a curator of a Museum that held an exhibit on Vidding. He even used this network as a resource to get in touch with some of those featured in the show.
In the meantime - Purgatory
It takes a lot to manage such a large network let alone keeping it running. There were a lot of bad embeds & innappropriate videos to remove. There was not much organization. This network has been run at times by 1 to 3 admins with various levels of involvement off & on. One of our admins almost passed away. There is still a lot of work to do. This current Ning platform will be moved to a version that will no longer allow uploads and Ning looks like a company that is on its last legs. Some would say activity of the site has dissipated. In spite of all this fortunately new members continue join each week.
A Challenge for the Future.
What to do? Is this 2010 all over again? The future I feel can be as bright as it can be dark and it all lives in the eye of the beholder. I see a bright future ahead based on strategic planning we've done and will be asking for your support for this future. This network like some others depend on member donations to support its future. If you can donate now, please do so. It doesn't have to be a lot. I personally have invested a lot of my own personal funds over the years. However, the contribution of the community makes the size of your possible contribution less relevant and the action more. I am not even asking you to dump a bucket of ice water on your head at least not yet. Some may want a sneak peak of what the future has in store before contributing. That's fine. Don't worry that is coming soon in future updates. If however, you have any unanswered questions about our network that would cause you to hesitate in contributing then please click the feedback button and I promise to address them. I am passionate about this project and would love the participation of others who feel the same way.
I want to support the network and donate something
Use the donate button above and donate 5, 10, 20, or more to support the network. Considering our registered member count if only 10% gave just $5 each we would have 9k which would be more than enough to meet our intended goals including hosting high quality videos. Again, if you have concerns, questions or any hesitation that can be resolved with a question to us. Click the feedback button and ask away.
I am can't support the network now
That is completely understandable. As much time and money as I have spent to keep the network running there have been times when I have been in the same position.. Luckily those where not at make or break times or it was at a time where a fellow members helped keep the network running. We are eternally grateful for those folks. If it's not the right time, no worries. When it is possible I just ask that you consider then. Just continue to be part of the community, Being a part of the community is a form of support in and of itself.
I don't like this network and I don't want to support it
You may not like it in its present form but it will not stay that way. Use the feedback button and let us your feedback. If you don't want to do that then find something you are passionate about and spend your time there. We won't take it personally. This is our passion and we can't tell you enough how rewarding it was employ that passion in saving and preserving this network. Vidders & those who love watching videos on this site know what we are talking about. We will be around for the long haul and we look forward to celebrating the kind of accomplishments still ahead for this network when it's supported by committed members. Stay tuned for updates on the new network. It's unlike anything you've seen of our network before.
