It seems you're sticking with tumblr until it well and truly crumbles from the looks of your posts yesterday and your replies which is understandable.
I'm all for sticking around, but personally this was enough for me to consider other platforms and it made me curious what your final straw would have to be?
What would make this website unusable or annoying enough to pick up and set up shop elsewhere?
Also where do you think you'd most likely end up if the final straw is broken?
I know most people are choosing between dreamwidth and pillowfort but I think others are moving to reddit.
Site closure, probably. Or maybe an empty inbox.
I was on LJ, but my actual fandom start was on Usenet, and then people left for mailing lists, which was weird, but ooh, new stuff. And then mailing list people started leaving for this filthy upstart, LJ. How dare? Change sucks!
I jumped to DW early and have no regrets. When the next fool nonsense for The Youth came along, I gave it a try relatively quickly since I'd been so resistant about LJ. I couldn't get my usual username, so I picked something random based on the Fanlore posts I was reading at the time about zinefic vs. ~netfic~ (as though all online fic is one category you can generalize about). And here we are today. Oops.
I gave Imzy a serious try, but they never listened to us about pagination and functional threads. RIP. I gave Pillowfort a try right at the beginning, but it's like a worse Tumblr and also had dumb rule snafus. I made a Tiktok and made a video or two about fandom history, but short form fundamentally sucks.
But really, I already moved on years ago.
I did try the next hot thing, and it was Discord.
Granted, by now, Discord's days may be numbered, but it's the other place people are socked in if they aren't going to twitter-alikes where short form reigns and intelligent thought goes to die.
My actual fandom posts slowed to a trickle and I lost interest in Tumblr... and then it cleared out. And then it cleared out more. And then I hit some tipping point where I started showing up against the ever weakening background noise.
It plateaued somewhat after that since I started turning the queue down very low to limit the number of new people finding me. But jesus.
Anyway, I've had one foot out the door for the last decade.
Definitely since the porn ban when I started posting about the death of LJ culture and how Tumblr was on that same track. Did you know, by the way, that there are still a few pockets of fandom that are on LJ even in 2026? Some people just never let go.
I'm certainly on Reddit. I'm Old. We've all been on Reddit for decades. My actual account is from 2014. But I mostly use it to gawk at yarn craft drama or correct people on AO3 misinformation. I don't anticipate making it a primary place for fandom discussion.
If I do decide to reinvigorate somewhere other than my discord DMs, it will probably be the Escapade Con year-round discord. A lot of my energy goes towards Escapade these days, both the offline version in February and the online one in August.
