Today We Honor Ralph McDaniels ‘Uncle Ralph,’ VJ Ralph McDaniels and Video Music Box @videomusicbox brought the music and culture of hip-hop to our floor model 25inch television from Monday to Friday on channel 31 in NYC. Friday Night Videos on NBC and MTV were not showing hip-hop videos in the early 80s, it was Uncle Ralph and Lionel C. Martin and Video Music Box showcasing Curtis Blow, Grand Master Flash and The Furious Five, Run DMC, Whodini, The Fat Boys, and Roxanne Shanté videos… Video Music Box open doors for more hip-hop artist like Kool Moe Dee, LL Cool J, MC Shan, Boogie Down Productions, The Get Fresh Crew, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Heavy D. & The Boyz, and Kool G. Rap & Polo to name a few. Uncle Ralph inspired millions of African and Latino Americans with showcasing a reflection of themselves on television when networks like CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, (Channel 9, Channel 11, and Channel 13 for you New York heads) refuse to. He inspired a young Brooklyn kid like myself to follow a career in film and media and continue his legacy of introducing culture to the people.
