This isn't about CA, but is VideoPad video editor free?

Sadly no.

I actually went through a long period trying to find a free editor. The biggest pain in the ass was half of them didn’t even tell me it was just a demo until I’d already made a video up, so then I lost everything I made because it wouldn’t let me finalise it without buying the full version.

In the end I was so fed up I just brought the VideoPad video editor because I wasn’t losing all the hard work I’d put into my video at the time. I’m not sure if I know any proper free ones (most of them are free for like two videos then they say you need to buy it).

VideoPad is pretty good though (and I think I only paid about 30-40 quid for it which isn’t bad considering my friend brought one from PC world for about 60 quid and her’s is crap). So I endorse it if you want to pay for one. If you want a free version then I’m afraid I can’t help. Sorry :(
