What is the biggest turn-offs in characters? * not sexually speaking
// This is a nice one! Ty for asking it @videtur existentia So, where to start.
1, If a character can snap with their fingers and suddenly every wound is healed. I know healers are must for the game and since magic exists, healing magic’s existence is a given. Still, if every wound, illness or injury can be dealt within seconds without actual consequences, that’s a big no for me. I know healing characters can be tricky to figure them out, but there are plenty of people out there who made it work wonderfully, so it can be done.
2, Characters being THE Maw Walker; the slayer of the titan Argus; the to defeat N’zoth; etc. I think you get it. The titled hero saving the world. Sure, go ahead, participate in the actual content, earn achievements for your character, but never be the ultimate hero. Geetting titles like Archmage or Archdruid can work, as you can always say there were multiple magi putting in effort and all who are worthy to receive it, since these titles were always held by multiple people. But being the person who was part of the group to defeat and kill the big bad (especially more than once)? Nah, forget it.
3, This is a mix of ic and ooc, but can also be a potential turn-off: Bending or breaking the lore for your own fun regarding your character? Do it. Just don’t try to force anyone to interact with your character while enforcing your changes in the setting. Example, your character has a partner from a different race and say they managed to have a child. This can be lorebreaking (or rather it is currently unprecedented in the official lore). If your character doesn’t go out of their way to promote it, but simply say they have a partner and a kid and not bringing up the lore-unstable parts, that can work just fine in my opinion, Again, just don’t try to force others to accept and to go along with it if they don’t want to.
4, Playing a human noble and expect everyone to know who they are and pay homage to them. Again, these sort of things can work. Descendants of impoverished minor nobles with barely anything to their name is one way to deal with it, since that way the character is essentially a nobody. There are ofc other ways, and there are people out there who can make the noble card work perfectly, but this is not true for everyone.
5, Obviously the unkillable, undefeatable, undamageable characters who have bigger plot armor than canon characters. Just nope. Your character can be powerful, as long as they have clear weaknesses that can be exploited against them and be defeated (killing off someone is still a nope unless it is agreed oocly).
There are more, but these were at the top of my mind at the moment. Thansk again!
