The first known photos of the vidpro card for Heart of Darkness have been found!
Before the big glass cases and the magnetized alarms, there was vidpro. These cards were displayed in Toys R’ Us and you’d get a little ticket to collect the game in the back to stop people from stealing games without paying for them. Not sure if this was similarly used in Europe, but it was definitely in Canada.
It may seem like just the front and back cover, not as cool and flashy as a promotional display like the currently no photo available “pop up press kit” or the infamous “shoppers drug mart gummi savers display” (god how I want you) but it’s still neat to see.
There’s still sometimes this sort of system used currently, but nowadays it’ll be gamestop making their own preview cover art by printing cover art onto a sheet of printer paper and sticking it into an empty used ps2 case. Not as special.
