It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of artist Hermann Nitsch. We had the privilege of representing his career in the United States for almost a decade including presenting three solo exhibitions at Mike Weiss Gallery, one of which was the 60. Painting Action // 60. Malaktion in 2011, the first live painting action in the United States. These are images from that performance and exhibition, more images can be viewed at mikeweissgallery.com. A founding member of the Viennese Actionism movement, a humanist and hugely influential art historical figure, Nitsch touched the minds and hearts of thousands through his all encompassing practice. A practice that redefined the boundaries of performance art, painting and our very conception of what it means to be human. Our hearts go out to Rita Nitsch and his family during this time. #hermannnitsch #hermannnitschmuseum #nitschfoundation #mikeweissgallery #vienesseactionism @nitschfoundation (at Chelsea, Manhattan) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cci_90rpEiB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
