It’s Manuals Monday! Every Monday we feature an excerpt from a graphics standards manual from the archives.
Today’s featured manual is for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center by Vignelli Associates, circa 1983.
The first page has this introduction:
“Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has established a graphics program to provide unified and recognizable appearance for its visual materials, such as stationery, publications, signs, arm patches, and the like.
As part of this program, the logo has been redesigned as a seal, and this new seal will gradually replace all variants that have sprung up over the years.
This book presents the design standards that have been developed to implement the new graphics program. These standards should be adhered to in the development of all new visual materials. Any questions concerning the use of the standards should be referred to the Department of Public Affairs.”
The Vignellis also did a number of graphic programs for specific programs at MSKCC. Stay tune for more examples!
