Do you think BH is a good character or that he's bland? I don't really see the appeal in him compared to Flug and Demencia
I'm gonna get people upset, but I think Bh is the most bland character of the show. I mean, other than him being sexy, supposedly, and evil, why do people like him. Really think about it. If you're first thoughts are the way he looks or speaks or his evilness, then there isn't much to him. Which would be fine, if he wasn't the main character.
I find it weirdly concerning that people hope that Black Hat doesn't get development. Like...development does not equal redemption. Black Hat can be a decent being without becoming good. BH clearly has trust in Flug because in a deleted short, he entrusted Flug to be the boss of the house while he was gone. He also shouts a compliment at Flug in the shrink ray short, saying, "Of course I like it, you idiot!" Literally the same vibes I got from Dr. Robotnik when he yelled at Agent Stone, "Of course I want a latte! I love the way you make them!!" Why couldn't their relationship be more like that instead of Flug being a punching bag for really no reason? Though I still like Flug getting hurt sometimes.
Plus, I have always disliked that Alan stripped away BH's normal behaviors with stupid crap like boiling puppies in acid. Guess we're just supposed to forget when he read newspapers, played golf with a cup, went for a casual drive, tanned during a storm, and pranked his coworkers. I guess they dont exist anymore since he just stays in his office because...that's what Alan thinks bosses do, probably. Also because he's hard to write.
Alan has admitted that BH is incredibly difficult to write alone, but fun to write with other characters. That is what happens when you strip a character of identity and personality and they solely exists for other characters to react to. Black Hat no longer is a money-hungry gremlin that seems to give a tiny fuck about his coworkers and is now there just to be eye-candy and I hate it.
I no longer can imagine an episode with just Black Hat being the central focus. If Black Hat, a main character, can disappear for a huge chunk of an ep and barely make any difference when he does exist, then that is not character...that is a prop.
Don't even get me started about how stupidly overpowered he is.
