Beech and Dragon Heartstring (Peruvian Vipertooth), 11", unyielding

Beech wands tend to select for either the understanding and experienced or those wise beyond their years. However, this ability to understand others does not necessarily mean openmindedness - merely that they are not narrow-minded. Matched to a Peruvian Vipertooth heartstring, I imagine that this individual might quickly draw their conclusions of a person, understanding as they may be - however the flexibility there suggests they may well be stubborn about changing their mind. The length however, suggests a slight lack of confidence, but whether that makes them more stubborn, or permits them to reconsider, I cannot yet say. However, the sheer power of Dragon may be a confidence boost enough to firm up that stubbornness more than necessary. However, one would hope Beech’s own nature in selecting this individual means they’ll change when holding their opinion risks becoming narrowmindedness.

Pine and Dragon Heartstring (Peruvian Vipertooth), 10 3/4", firm

Pine is a reliably independent wandwood, seeking someone likewise. Coupled to Peruvian Vipertooth makes for a surprising combination - smaller dragons are more likely to share territory, or at least be less violent over it, than larger dragons (aside from the more social Chinese Fireball). This suggests someone who’d keep to themselves and yet likes being around people. Not necessarily someone who finds people draining, but who simply feels no especial need to interact or make an impression. The length and flexibility here add to this impression - someone who is perhaps not the most confident or assertive, but who nonetheless knows their bounds and firmly keeps to them.

Vine tends to seek those with surprising depths, strong drive and a good idea of where they wish to go. Coupled to the speed of Vipertooth and the genuine strength of Dragon in general, this can make for a formidable wand - though the length here speaks of someone perhaps lacking in confidence, be that due to a lack of confidence in their own ability or being shunned or doubted enough to make them doubt themselves. Nonetheless, they have strength when it is called upon, with a great capacity for stubbornness. Hopefully, in the end, this helps them rather than hurts them.

Nothing to forgive dear. And of course appearances. I’m quite curious as to your prolific ideas - I wonder what you’re doing with all of these.

Vine (Vitis Vinifera) and Nundu Heartstring, 10 ¾", unyielding

I’ve analysed a wand much like this for you before - the only difference is that that one was three inches longer. Grape Vine specifically has a greater intensity of the traits of Vine wands, which, when coupled to the volatility and violent strength of Nundu Heartstring can be troubling. In this case the shorter length indicates someone less self-assured, which is in theory better than overweening confidence - but would not preclude them from lashing out, both magically and with the comments and quick perception those chosen by Nundu cored wands are known for. Given the stubbornness here, I think this individual would still be prideful even if their self-confidence may not be as complete. 

This is a simpler wand to me than the last Vine and Nundu wand you suggested. A soft curving shape, well fitted to it’s master’s hand, small carvings to add a little shape - a perfectly round ball at the pommel, for example. The only non-smooth detailing I can see is around the small curve to distinguish handle from shaft - I see it as having angled notching set into it, almost like a coil of rope... or the marks of a set of claws at an angle.

Yew and Kelpie Hair, 13 ½", unyielding

Yew wands have an oftentimes ominous reputation and not always without good cause. Yew wands are especially good at martial magics and are often surprisingly powerful, regardless of their core. I find it interesting, then, that this is coupled to a Kelpie core - one known more for transfiguration. However, it is a tricksy core and consequently I would not be surprised if it were more capable of unusual uses of transfiguration in a combative setting. Given the length - indicative of a great deal of confidence - and the flexibility - indicative of great stubbornness, this feels like the wand of someone who almost wants a reason to get into fights. Given the tricksy nature of Kelpie cores and Yew’s own reputation, added to the length and flexibility, this feels very much the wand of someone with their own agenda, someone who is ill-inclined to reconsider their agenda and who may even prize their agenda above friendships or simple rules of politeness.

I see this wand as being carved up and down with long curving, twisting lines, almost like the hair of a horse’s tail, and these carved lines stained darker than yew’s usual pale, so as to stand out. From a distance it makes the wood look almost fractured.

Holly and Dragon Heartstring (Persian Shockspine), 11", rigid

Are you aiming for an alternate Harry here? I’ve said very little about Shockspine cores on the blog but they do have a leaning towards lightning... you could have some interesting symbology there.

Anyway. Holly is a wand wood with a knack for protective or defensive magic, and often finds it’s way to the hands of the impetuous - such as Harry. Holly wands also tend to end up in the hands of people who are likely to be dragged into danger or an unusual quest, and can vary considerably based on the core they have. Meanwhile, Dragon Heartstring is a core likely to only enable the impetuosity that Holly wands are known to find, and may in fact only make it harder for the bearer of a Holly wand to tame their temper. The length and flexibility here indicate someone well settled into themselves, perhaps not the most confident but not necessarily self-doubting and far from arrogant - though they are stubborn, which fits with their impetuosity. Given the Shockspine core I’d be inclined to say that this wand chooses a person who’s anger may sometimes burn cold - and be all the more dangerous for it.

I see this wand as being cleanly shaped with some small angular spikes where the handle joins the shaft of the wand, more like thorns than spines. A simple wand, with perhaps a little staining on the handle - though if that’s from it’s making or a consequence of wear and tear and the sweat of it’s master sinking in and staining the wand, who can say?

Now, I am inclined to believe that the solidity of this wand comes, in fair measure, from the Magma Python Rib core, and so it is not the most reliable assessment of the stubbornness of this wand’s eventual bearer. Instead, given this core and the nature of Dittany as a growing plant and a healer, I imagine the eventual bearer of this wand is likely even more adaptable than might commonly be seen in a bearer of a Magma Python cored wand. The length also indicates that they’re not yet fully grown into a firm degree of confidence, which likewise speaks to a degree of changeability. 

As for the woods... Beech tends to seek those with wisdom, be that wisdom beyond their years, or experiential wisdom from various events. They also tend towards open-mindedness - or at least, they do poorly in the hands of the narrow-minded - and with details of Virginia Strangler you have a wand that has the potential to be dangerous and speaks of a perhaps lacking degree of empathy in it’s bearer. However, as I said before, Dittany is a healer - this is not necessarily the wand of someone cruel, but could just as easily be the wand of someone who, due to experience, tends not to get attached and can seem callous due to a learned and ingrained pragmatism.

Rosebush vine (Bella Sogno) and troll whisker/fairy wings, 12 3/4, pliant.

I think I’m remembering why I ended up putting off so many of these when I got them. Bad brain space + the complexity of doing combination readings? Extremely exhausting. I’d see these and go “...  not today, please.”

Now, though, I can see them and go “one a day, please”, so that’s an improvement.

Now, to the wand:

Vine (Bella Sogno) and Troll Whisker/Fairy Wing, 12 3/4″, pliant

Vines tend to seek those with greater goals, in the case of Bella Sogno, and Rosebush vines, you end up further with someone who has a vibrant inner world and a tendency to daydream - to imagine other possibilities. With Troll Whisker as a core, however, this person should remain relatively down to earth despite their adventurous thoughts, and the Fairy Wing adds back in a dose of flighty liveliness that should help them make the most of the potential power of a Troll core. The length and flexibility also indicates confidence and adaptability - all in all this wand is likely to find it’s way to the hands of an energetic individual with an interest in a great number of things and likely a desire to see a great deal of what they imagine come to life.

Honeysuckle and kneazle whisker, 13 and 1/2, slightly springly. The wix had this wand made as their second wand, after the death of their beloved pet, Lady Kitty.

Theoretically the bond between pet and owner may link this wand more strongly to it’s master, but there is no guarantee. The wand does, after all, choose the wizard.

Honeysuckle wands tend towards the same as most Vines, but they also seek kindness and pragmatism simultaneously. Combined to a Kneazle core this suggests someone who is content on their own but alert, quick thinking, pragmatic and kind when faced with social situations, especially with those they care about. The length and flexibility further speak of adaptability, while the length speaks of confidence.

Likely to seek someone with a vision far beyond the usual scope and who is likely to surprise people who think they know them well. Nonetheless, this wand does not speak of viciousness but of kindness, or at least, a well-meaning attitude. They may lack some little confidence, but remain adaptable, and I imagine their good heart will take them far.

What do you think of this one? Vine with Phoenix Feather, 14 1/2 inches and hard.

Vine selects for intelligence, for hidden depths, for those who will always surprise those closest to them. It tends towards those with some greater purpose, some goal always just beyond their reach - striving for equality, learning everything, fighting for what they believe in for good or for ill - and with the versatility and subtle power of Phoenix Feather I imagine this wix would have as good a chance as succeeding as the fierce power of dragon. However, this wix seems to be very overconfident and very stubborn, which I imagine may hold them back at times.

Vine is the wandwood of those with hidden depths, of great intelligence, those who will astound even their closest friends when they wish to. A dragon heartstring core indicates considerable fierceness and some degree of flamboyance, a kind of magical rigidity towards a preference for action, which may sometimes be reckless. Backed with the intelligence of Vine you have a wand which will be used imaginatively; the wix this wand chooses is likely intelligent and a creative problem solver. The length and flexibility here support that, I think, indicating someone who is quite confident and who knows when to adapt to circumstances.
