So, after returning to the southeast six years ago, I learned that the beautiful, sweet smelling, and abundant Star Jasmine is referred to as "confederate" jasmine hereabouts. Sigh. Why? The plant is surely thousands of years old. It originated in Asia. So, WTF does that have to do with one of the most disgraceful moments in USA history? One article suggests that the term "confederate" was assigned in Malaysia for a reason unrelated to America. So, US southeasterners stuck in the past on the wrong side of a bad idea and even worse war just seized upon that? Or is the use of "confederate" merely a garden center marketing ploy? Regardless, this beauitiful plant will always be Star Jasmine to me. #jasmine #starjasmine #Trachelospermumjasminoides #flora #flowers #flowersinurbia #vineflowers # https://www.instagram.com/p/B_sQ08olxFM/?igshid=15el91dlevsax
