imagine being a student at hexside and being hyper aware of the blight siblings’ existences cuz they’re practically the most powerful students (in money, power, AND magic) that go there but one year you just see all three of them deteriorate from their cool/cold personas into SIMPS because of a random human and the detention-turned-multi-track kids 😭😭💔💔

In one of his favorite shirts now, Vinra walked back to the living room, where the fire was still burning in the metal wire basket, by the chimney. He sat near it, still drying off, his skin still wet from the rain under the new clothes. The fire felt nice, and his parents came and joined him, sitting in front of the fire. Kaybre took the gems from his pockets and held them close to the fire, then bringing them back when they started to shine. He showed them to Tashiin.

“Are these for me?” she asked.

“They are. Because you’re the light of my life.”

“Hey, I thought I was the light of your life.” Vinra teased. Tashiin ruffled Vinra’s hair, and took the gems with her other hand.

“Don’t start that. I love both of you.” Kaybre said.

“I know, I’m just teasing.” Vinra responded, leaning to lay on his dad.

A haunting, melancholy tune permeated the air, supplemented by the sound of hundreds of couples stepping, dancing together in unison. Vinra’s temporary bond with Kannon gave him the memory of learning the dance- Kannon and Vinra danced like a couple, inconspicuous.

“I have to kill you when this song ends.” hissed Kannon, holding his palm to Vinra, to spin around like the rest of the couples dancing.

“I know.” said Vinra. “How much time is that?”

“Two minutes.”

They danced. If he wasn't fearing for his life, Vinra would have appreciated the music and the atmosphere of the dance more.

“Have you made up your mind about whether you’re going to kill me or not?”

“Shut up,” said Kannon. “I’m thinking.” The organ-players continued, the bobbing notes from hundreds of instruments the boy had no name for. The steps on the marble floor of the castle felt lonely, despite the many people dancing, and the king of Parvinos dancing with his wife mere yards away.

“Take your time, it’s only the end of my mortal existence.” Vinra put his hand on Kannon’s hip and held Kannon’s other hand. They continued to dance.

“I could go out in a bath of fire.” Vinra suggested, his breathing hastening as he recognized the song coming to an end. Kannon dipped Vinra below him, holding on enough to help him back up in tune with the music.

Thoughts swirled in Kannon's head. The past few weeks with Vinra, his betrayal, and the look of fear and hollow helplessness.

“I’ve decided not to kill you.”

“Goody.” said Vinra. “When the song ends, get close to me. I’ll blow enough fire to encase us in a whirlpool.” “And after that?” “Pick me up, and run off with me. As if you went to finish the job of- of killing me out back. The fire was because I retaliated. And- please don’t change your mind.”

Kannon swallowed. “I promise.”
