She hasn’t had time to see Bucky too much recently; work has kept them both so busy and she finds herself missing him desperately, even though they text and call often enough. So she figures why not surprise him after work on a Friday so they can spend the weekend together?

Letting herself into his apartment, she hears him in the bedroom and heads there immediately. Catching him naked is such a fluke but one that immediately sets Peggy’s heart racing. How on earth has she gotten so lucky? Leaning against the doorframe, she teases him, but has to concede a swift defeat when he teases right back and sends a bolt of arousal shooting through her. Biting her lip, she can’t stop looking at him. “Could I join you now?” she asks boldly, with a lick of her lips.

She’s always loved when she can wake up before Bucky. In the morning light, her husband is groggy, rumpled by sleep, and, quite frankly, adorable. She’s always thought so, from the first night they slept next to each other. His lazy grin sets her heart fluttering in a way that takes her by surprise. They’ve got a daughter, have been married for years now. By all rights, she shouldn’t respond so strongly to him, and yet...

“At least I’d look good in glasses,” she jokes, rolling to face him and humming as he reaches out to touch her hair. “Oh, I slept alright. Still not used to Poppy sleeping through the night though; I kept waking up, trying to hear if she needed us.”

Upon waking, Peggy is disoriented for a moment; she’s not in her flat and the covers are the wrong color. It takes a moment for the events of the night before to rise back to the surface. She winces; at no point had she meant to sleep with Bucky. They’ve become quite close over the past few months, supporting each other and depending on one another. But she’d not meant for it to go so far.

Peggy sneaks out of his bed, moving carefully to avoid disturbing the man. It’s surprisingly difficult; Bucky, she’s learning, likes to cuddle. Still, she manages to get up, pulling on undergarments and skirt before he wakes up. Her blouse hangs open as he sits up and Peggy hastily buttons at least three buttons to give her some sort of coverage. 

Looking at him, she sighs, suddenly exhausted.”I just...” Peggy’s not sure what to say, what she even wants to say. Sinking down on the bed next to him, she looks down at her hands, quiet. “I don’t know what any of this means,” she admits. “I’m sorry. I never meant-- I should have thought--”

He couldn’t tell if he was being serious or sarcastic. It was always hard to tell with Bucky, as Marcus remembered him, when he was pulling his leg, but with his brain scrambled like eggs it was even harder to tell since he wasn’t sure who this Bucky was.

He’d changed. Time and circumstances had made him a stranger. And hell Marcus was no better.

Knowing the place he was talking about though, they walk there; mostly for the time and time to stretch their legs. Order two coffees, and Marcus gets him the cookies either way.

“Guess you’re surprised to see me.” He said finally. “Can’t imagine it’s a treat to literally bump into the past on the street.”

She hates having her deficiencies dragged into the light, hates feeling so exposed. It’s only Bucky thankfully, but even this feels too much, too terrible. She sighs.  “And what would you have me say?” she asks.  “That I lost someone I care about? That I’ve lost every inch of ground I’ve gained in my profession? That no matter what I do, my coworkers assume any credits to my name can be traced back to my sex life?” She shakes her head, wishing her  eyes were dry, that it doesn’t upset her like it does. “It’s not in my control. There’s nothing to do but carry on.”

There were things he liked about the eastern half of the world, and things he didn't. It occasionally seemed backwards and rougher to him, which shouldn't have been a problem, considering the amount he traveled. But that wasn't always the case. In Bucharest, the city seemed impossibly old enough that Indy didn't even feel the need to consider the current events going on in the world.

So it certainly wasn't a jarring thing to consider WHO he might be addressing in the local dialect when he spoke to the person next to him browsing the market stand. He was a friendly guy, after all. "The fruit doesn't look too bad today, does it?"

LAUGHING, he knew just how right bucky was. he'd always been stubborn and that wasn't something that had changed with time. just like his loyalty to his best friend. after everything he'd been through, after the hell that hydra had put him through he wasn't about to leave him again. it had killed him to leave him in wakanda, but like peggy had once told him he needed to respect his friend's choice. "at least some things haven't changed," he quietly teased, closing his eyes as their foreheads were pressed together. bucky's words were what he needed to hear. steve tried hard to tell himself his best friend wasn't going to leave but he'd lost him so many times already that it was hard for him to believe it. in this moment, though, he knew that bucky wasn't going anywhere. life may have ripped them apart in the past, but this time he was certain nothing would happen to either one of them. "i know you're not. i won't let life rip us apart again."

Erica but her lip as she watched the man that just walked in like a hawk. The one person in all of St. Petersburg that she didn't want to walk into. Glancing up at the blue eyes surveying the establishment, pointed to the one that was a thread. "The guy in the brown trenchcoat. He used to be my partner in the KGB. He can't recognize me, or I'm screwed," she whispered, her back turned toward the man.
