Vinyl turnaround.

I really like this website. It is exemplary of the recent(ish) phenomenon for cycling and all things cyclist. This website seems to have certified itself as the spokesman (pun firmly intended) for a generation of men and women who grew up in the wild backwater, or, if they didn't actually grow up there, they certainly took out their mountain bikes in the early 1990s and headed for the backwater. It uses the word 'rad', which is itself a signifier of surf-dude friendly lingo, of supreme skill, speed, of broken clavicles and hi-tops. It is marketed squarely at the Californian-layabout-grown-up. Its point-of-difference is something which isn't seeming all that different, just nowadays, especially not amongst the cycling fraternity.

And today, it just so happened that I noticed it was merchandising the turntable grip. And better still, that it had sold out. We truly live in post-postmodern times. We eke out an individualism based on our wild nostalgia, our remembrance of things past. And the constant stream of items, of small, good value items that somehow enhance our place in this ever-increasingly digital backwater, whilst distancing ourselves firmly outside its ever-reaching grasp, keep us sane. I don't do vinyl. But if I did, then I would definitely want one.

SKDJFKSJ. I WANT A COLLECTION LIKE THAT TOO! My poor vinyl collection hasn’t grown at all for ages thanks to my lack of money. Mum was great and bought me two vinyls for Christmas, though. ♥
