Sunday sojourn was to Hayward, and a few of my #vinylremix #art series (or I take 12-in vinyl sleeves and use them as opportunities to visually reshape them, in this case #GraceJones's "slave to the rhythm" single, and a compilation from #LawrenceWelk) join a small brigade of other artists at the anniversary of @thestacksrecordshop , a great reason to swing out to this part of the East Bay (their jazz and funk sections are compact but impeccably curated). I've done a series called #vinylremix where I "refix" 12" album sleeves. This idea has been sitting around since around the end of the Bush 2 era, but I'm really feeling like finishing this one soon....as many of y'all know, I used to be a registered Republican (for years) even though I've always actually voted 'a la carte', but switched to Independent in 2016. One of the earliest experiments in my #vinylremix series, circa the early 2000s. #throwbackthursday still one of the best entries in my vinyl remix series of mixed media artworks built by taking old 12-in vinyl sleeves and using them as a remix canvas that can be subtle or radical depending on where the Muse takes me. This one was a little bit of both in that the core image form is still pretty intact but the texture is and colors are fundamentally overhauled using mostly acrylics, screen printing ink, gouaches on acetate, then heap loads of digital torquing. I just this week found the original base #painting that I used for the "leonard fro-en" release of my #vinylremix series. This thing's been sitting in a box for about a dozen years. The irony of course is that this week is also Leonard Cohen's birthday, I think he would have been 86. and yes, I still have no real understanding as to why I decided to increase the afro, but I do remember debating making it take up over a third of the sleeve before restraint and good taste kicked in (many of you long time followers know I go through periods where I start putting giant #afros on almost everything). #popart #mixedmedia #leonardcohen (at SoFA District) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFeOcprj-eL/?igshid=1j8uidqbculy7

Finished this a while ago, but never got around to publishing it. Started however many years ago as another entrant in the #vinylremix series, whereby I take old 12-inch vinyl album sleeves, and use them as canvases. Sometimes the changes are arguably subtle, often they are significant overhauls.
