Viola Desmond fight against segregation in Nova Scotia after she was charged and assaulted for sitting in a whites only section in 1946. Mam also owned a hair school ,The Desmond School of Beauty Culture so that black women would not have to travel as far as she did to receive proper training.She went around parts of Canada training black women in hair. Fearless woman with great entrepreneur skills. Not only did she fight racism in Canada, she produced make-up, hair, and skin care for women of color. Opened a beauty school for women and help them learn how to start their own beauty salons. This year 2018, Viola Desmond will be the first Canadian woman to appear alone on the $10can Bank note. Black history month begins with Canada's civil rights pioneer, Viola Desmond who refused to sit in the "colored section" of a movie theater in Nova Scotia on November 8, 1946. She was arrested and charged with defrauding the Canadian government by a penny. The one cent difference from the colored section which was $0.39 with whites only section $0.40. She was fined $26. Victory prevailed though when she was issued a formal apology and free pardon in 2010, and her image was put on Canada's postage stamp in 2012. In 2018 she will appear on Canada's $10. She died in 1965.
