Despite being vivacious and outgoing by nature, Violet knows the merits of keeping one’s head down and going unnoticed too. That’s why her mothers chose to use Daphne’s surname for themselves and their children, leaving their ties to the Parkinson family out of sight. It wasn’t because they were ashamed, and neither is Violet; they just knew life would be easier if they didn’t draw the kind of attention to themselves that the Parkinson name brought with it after the war. It enabled them to have an almost normal life, albeit a quieter and less socially-active one than either Daphne or Pansy had been planning for according to the stories they told their children. Violet often thinks her cousin, Scorpius, would have been better off if he had taken the Greengrass name too instead of having to face the world as a Malfoy, but he wouldn’t listen to her when she suggested it. He doesn’t listen to most of her advice, and the fact that he only agreed to help with the resistance after his beastly Weasley friends said the same things she was already saying rankles. Violet knows that she deserves more out of life than she’s gotten and while that’s certainly taught her to appreciate the value of hard work, it’s also left her resentful and defensive, yet adept at pretending not to be bothered.
