Okay but I will defend Kino’s character in the Pretty Pretty music video. Just look at things from his point of view.
He is the leader of a high school dance team, and has a girlfriend on the team who he shares his passions with, and they genuinely enjoy each other’s company. This Loser starts following his girlfriend around and listens to her music on her phone? Kino is understandably upset, and is a little rude and aggressive in confronting the Loser.
Loser then auditions for the dance team, allegedly because he likes dance, but he’s not even any good, and Kino now knows that the Loser is interested in his girlfriend, and is probably just trying to get into the team to get close to her. His friends laugh at the Loser, while Kino just rejects his dance team application.
Finally, the Loser/stalker tries once again to get into the dance team. Loser has improved, but Kino is still skeptical, and challenges him to a dance battle. Loser wins, and we can assume that he was accepted into the dance team, although Kino’s girlfriend isn’t leaving him for the Loser.
Basically, he may be the designated Rival, but the worst things he does are being rude to someone who was being weird about his girlfriend, and not letting a bad dancer join the dance team. He’s only the “bad guy” because he stands in the way of the main character getting the girl.
Edit: there’s a short fanfic based on this video that I think is very fair to Kino, while still having Yeo one as the sympathetic main character
